Whats a Sigma 4? A very good antenna i say!!! I ahve one up on the house roof and use it as a standby but i get great results using it as a stick. I run moonrakers and use it mostly to listen off of.. Good antenna from the mid 1970s classic era!!!! I think its a 7/8 wave antenna but i can get out great all over on it as it is.... |

In my opinion it's the best Omni ever made! Hope I can find one when the time comes that I can put one up! 2nd would be the old ratshack .64 and currently a 5/8th wave. just my opion ;-) 73 |

The sigma 4 and the sigma 5/8 both are awesome antennas that avanti made back in the 1970s... Got both of them here were i live the 5/8 is up in the garage collecting dust and the 4 is up on the roof as a standby!!!!! |

I owned one between the years 1976 to 1982. My friends would call it the "Upside Down" antenna. I even gave some Moon Raker 4's a run for their money. As far as the gain of the base antenna, I always thought that it was a 5/8 wave antenna. But since being on this forum, I believe the actual gain might be a 6/8 or 7/8 wavelength's. |

Maybe some company will build a clone of this antenna. I'm going over to the retrosite and take a look at this thing. mikefromms |

Whats interesting is i can switch from the upsideown antenna to my rakers and no one notices a thing!!!!!! This is only at a short distance like about 5 to 10 miles.. At a distance yes the change is very considerable between the beam and the sigma 4 like you would find with any beam... |

I found a site that states that CTE makes a copy of this Sigma 4 antenna. mikefromms |

The CTE version is a good antenna but the craftmanship kinda well, stinks in comparison to the Avanti version i have but the Italian version somewhat is more broadbanded than the Avanti version.. I had problems keeping my italian Sigma 4 together because it used tiny cheap phillips screws that kept vibrating out and the antenna fell apart several times up on the roof!!!! I took it down and pop riveted every other section and used hose clamps on the sections that i didnt pop rivet. It worked great but i sold it when i found a original Avanti... Would i buy another foreign copy? yes but i would beef it up before i put it up!!!!!

mikefromms, Would you post that address for the cte site that makes a copy of the sigma 4 antenna? I'm feeling nostalgic about my old base antenna, and I would love to take a look at this internet site. By the way, the CB Tricks website has a picture of the sigma 4 antenna. Too bad they don't sell them. |

http://www.geocities.com/lantinga2000/antenna.html Wolverine, check out the above site. Pretty interesting. I've never seen a Sigma 4 until I saw one on this site. Looks a little like an Astroplane or least a first cousin to it. mikefromms |

mikefromms, At 27' 7" they were tall Antennas. I noticed the Vector 4000 looks just like it. My post above on July 11th will show you the Original AV-174 Sigma IV and show you the assembly instructions for it. Lon Tech808 |
