I want to get the KLV-550 and was wondering if it will do good with my Uniden washington dead keying at 3 watts (no wattage control). This will be my first amp so I'm new to this. If the KLV-550 isn't the right amp for this radio then can someone recommend an amp similar to this one because I really like the looks of it. If it's just a matter of lowering the dead key then what should I lower it to? |

This amp would be awesome on a washington with 3 watt dead key. You will have audio out the ying-yang... 307 |

I'd recommend dropping the radio carrier (dead key) to 2w max. |

Cool. At least I know I can get the amp. Tech671 why do you recommend dropping the dead key to 2w max? |

Radio 514 I agree with Tech671. There are more techinical reasons than paper allows. I run my 550 at 1 1/5 watts with great results. It runs cooler and longer that way. I know you would be happy with the combination you speak of. |

1.5w in on highest setting gets 100w out carrier from the 550. Will run cooler and not overmod due to too much peak to carrier ratio or get muffled, heating due to too small peak to carrier ratio. |

Would I be better off installing a wattage control so I can have some play or is unecessary? |

I would just so you have more flexibility to dial any amp in just right, shouldn't cost that much either. |
