That's a shame.

I know where you can get a new one....

Twa77,

how old was that Imax2000? I've had mine survive two tropical storms (max winds about 65mph) and I live very close to the water (Gulf of Mexico). After the second storm I took it down and inspected it. No flaws. I'm just curious if it's a newer one, you might contact Solarcon and see what they can do. If nothing else maybe you can get a new section.

I like my aluminum antennas. I mean go figure man, there are aluminum antennas that have been up all over here were I live since the CB boom of the mid 1970s. They are still up (but most of them are no longer in use) and still going strong for well over 30 years perhaps...

Hear with snow and ice it get inside and freezes and splits the aluminum. But there are some 5/8 wave ground planes still around and I seen a ole starduster still in good shape. Never had no problems out of my sigma till I dropped it! Think that was the best antenna I ever owned. For price though I love my antron.

We had 55mph winds in VA yesterday. I looked up at my Maco 5/8 w/ gpk and commented to my wife at how much it was moving in the wind. She got a little worried. It was wiggling and waggling like a dog's tail but looking at the bottom section where it connects to the mast,... it was firm. That thing ain't going nowhere!

Shame to hear that TWA. You must have had the right gust come up at a vulnerable area in the antenna. I just put up an Antron with a stamped date of 1/91 on it. Been thru soooo many storms I lost count. The center section is flaking fiber shards and the top section split in a storm once. But since I had a GPK, I used one of the radials from that for the top and voila! Yeah they whip around in the air, but if they didn't, they'd surely snap. They need to flex with the wind. Next time take a look at the top of a tree in the wind. Same principle. Good luck TWA. I'm sure you'd be fine either way you choose (aluminum or fiber).

I've had mine in 85mph winds with no problems. Wax them with the same wax you use on your vehicle. Then they don't get brittle, crack, or dry out and splinter and you can handle a waxed fiberglass antenna w/o gloves.
