DONT buy a old one that does not cover 800 mhz but any dual trunking tracker is fine you need to check and see what kind of systems are used at your QTH. I have several radio shack ones they are as good as any but for you it is strickly going to depend what is out there to hear. O as for c-phones FORGET them most systems are going digital and they are BOARING anyway. |

Spaceman Im wondering what world you live on? "Why buy a trunking scanner?? Most local police/fire DO NOT USE IT." NOT TRUE ..... If it was trunking radios would not sell as fast as they do. Here in Tampabay almost ALL of out county / city services are trunking. In fact the JAIL system is the ONLY system not trunking and we are on 460 mhz. Now some small PD's and Tampa PD do have conveninal systems around here but a tracker will do them too. If your buying a scanner buy a dual trunking tracker other wise unless you live in podunk USA your going to regreat you did not. Bruce |

I got a trc 2004....Not trunking but I listen to law enforcement calls all day and use a 2022 for that and the other one dedicated to 800 mhz converted to 400 channels... |

You can lisen to trunking without a trunking scanner but if your going to spend money why not get something decent the frist time there are lots of good trunking scanners out there from the radio shack pro 2053 on up all are good most will program off your PC! I GAVE away my last non trunking scanner to someone here on the forum and for a while had 3 trunkers here i still have 2 of them. Unless you live in podunk county with only VHF 154 mhz poilce its just not smart to buy a scanner that dosnt trunk. Just my opinion Bruce |

have 2 old bearcat III crystal scanners, with 3 IMPORTANT frequencies in each one ( not the same frequencies in both scanners, plus have a bearcat 560 16 channel programmable, plus 2 bearcat 210 scanners, some times 4 of the 5 are talking about something, IF I only had ONE scanner with all these frequencies programmed in it, I would just hear " bits and pieces " from all , and I would not have all the info from any of the situations...have found out the hard way it is better to use scanners with small memories, and scatter out the "noisy talkative folks " out among the scanners, than to have ONE scanner with 100 - 500 frequencies ( you can only listen to one at a time talking ).......... If your local 911 folks start talking, and the sheriff dept starts talking , and the local POLICE start talking, it is far better to have 3 seperate scanners telling all of the info, than one scanner with all those 3 freq. in it, and only getting PART of the info from all 3 ...kind of like the tv sets with a "picture-in-a-picture", so you can watch NASCAR racing, while your favorite football team is getting beat by a no-good team from wherever, and you can see both screens at the same time...good luck on your scanner adventures |
