KB- Pretty much the golden standard of truckers wanting a fairly rugged noise-cancelling mic. I run one when talking SSB. I like the mic and it is just a bit clearer than Astatic's 636L. All in all a good mic, they still mass produce them. XLAXX |

Richard, If it is the 4 pin like the Connex 3300 it should be: PIN #1 ~ SHIELD & RED PIN #2 ~ WHITE PIN #3 ~ BLUE PIN #4 ~ BLACK Yellow N/C Hope this helps. Lon Tech808 |

Hi All Happy New Year! When purchasing the Turner Telex Road King 56 Noise Canceling Microphone I was immediately impressed by the rugged construction, overall performance and sound quality. About the same time a very good friend of mine purchased the Astatic D104-M68 hand-held mobil microphone which he was very happy with. Within just weeks of use I thought about modifying or rather transforming my Road King 56 with the internal components of the D104, and one of the D104-M68 microphones was purchased for this purpose. Believe me when I relate to you about the "hack job" I performed on the D104, as the internal circuit board was literally cut down in size to fit within the Road King. Just a few components were relocated and of course the mic pre-amp is now powered by the radio to which it is connected to. Also, of course, the mic element from the Road King was replaced with the D104 mic element. Only the case and PTT switch was retained from the Road King, and everything else was from the D104, cable, mic element, pre-amp, etc. About the same time my friend was not really happy with the PTT button location on the D104-M68, and after seeing the job I preformed on mine, he also wanted one. The first modification/transformation required about sixteen hours to complete. Of course the time required to do the second one was much less since all of the fine details were already worked out. Both of these microphones have been reliably working for over sixteen years! I also have an "unmodified" Road King 56 which is still used to this day. george potter KD6ANF |

I have two RK-56's and find they perform admirably on AM 11 meter. However when working 11 meter sideband friends had great difficulty hearing me well with the RK-56. With Astatic dropping so many good alternatives I stumbled across the CDL-56. A less quality mic in the past but it made a night and day difference according to those I speak to on side-band, and it performs well on AM also. |
