I notice that Ameritron always advertises their amps as near legal limit or at full legal limit. What is the legal limit for Hammers? |

1500 peak envelope power is the max---but the rules say that you must use only the minimum necessary for carrying out the desired communications. (Example: if 50 watts is making the trip, you are not supposed to run any more than that) Not all operators are mindful of this sometimes. :-) |

vernonott- just to give you an idea.. The rules specify that at all times, transmitter power must be the minimum necessary to carry out the desired communications. The maximum power output is 1500 watts PEP with some exceptions, based on band and license class. All classes are limited to 200 watts PEP in the 80, 40, and 15 meter Novice/Technician Plus subbands. 30m band- 200 watts PEP 10m novice and tech plus- 200 watts PEP 219-220 MHz- 50 watts PEP Geographical power restrictions apply to the 70 cm, 33 cm and 23 cm bands. There are more regs to be found in the FCC Rule Book |

Oh..I forgot to add that, as I read it, NO amateur amplifier shall be capable of providing more than 15db gain over the input |

Was wondering if it was a waste of time ordering an Was wondering if the Ameritrons needed to be modified for 27mhz, or if they are fully automatic in switching bands, (with no hooks in other words) ??? |

I have an AL811H amp and to operate on 11 meters you have to do the 10 meter green wire mod and retune the slugs for 11 meters. I can run 800 w. PEP all day with no problem. BTW - If you don't retune the slugs, you run into self-oscillation problems and the amplifier will act weird. You can also change out the 811 tubes w/ 572's and run a KW PEP. 572's run cooler, but be sure and by matched sets of tubes. Svetlana has 'em. |

Lou Cypher, Can you please tell me the proper procedure to tune the input slugs for 11 meters? I've searched the internet but had no luck. Many thanks. |

Radiohead, put an swr/wattmeter between your radio and the Ameritron amp and read the reflected watts or swr and tune or adjust the 10m slug on the back of the amp for the lowest reflected watts or swr to the center frequence your using if the amp's been converted. |

Error....Error...Error... The 220mhz amateur band's max limit is the usual 1500 watts...except for Novice Class which is limited to 25 watts. Note: All amateur power limits are PEP... except on 60 meters where the power limit is based on ERP (Effective Radiated Power)...Legal limit on 60 meters is 50 watts ERP. |

I have the Ameritron ALS-600. No tubes and no tuning. The ALS-500 and 600 both need to have a 10 meter kit. In order to get it, you have to provide the dealer with a copy of your license. From what I have read, the other Ameritron amps use a simple cut of a green wire. If you look up photos of the amps, the rear panel shows the tuning slugs. One more thing, in order to work the WARC bands you have to tune the slugs and that will take away some power on 10, 15, and 20 meters Tell me how are you going to key the amp with a CB radio? It would be simple to put a switch in to key but it is not like the 11 meter amplifiers where you just key the mic and it works. Lots to think about before you go out and buy one. Marty KG6QKJ |
