I'm just getting back into the hobby after a few years off. For my base I use a peaked and tweaked Cobra 148 GTL. I have, but never hooked it up, a Workman Low Pass TVI Filter. Do the TVI filters work and if so, how well? I really don't want to p**s off my neighbors who still get their local channels via a TV Antenna. As it is I still have to find some way to hide my base antenna just in case. BTW, how many feet of coax can you effectively run before problems set in?
Thanks for your help and sorry for all of the questions! Ed - Long Island, NY

Ed,
Run the best coax you can afford (not overkill). Something along the line of Times LMR400 with well installed silver teflon ends. Keep your radio/mike modulation around 85%. Ground everything well.
With this you should have no problems.

Ed, You may have a problem with this "peaked and tweaked" rig. As Tech671 states, keep the mod in that ballpark and don't run over your 4watt am/12 watt ssb pwr limit. TVI filters do work, but what you have there not really worth putting in line. Use something of higher quality. I'm talking stuff that Copper doesn't sell (no offense)...at least to my knowledge. Get a Barker and Williamson (B & W), Oak Bay [I use one of these], or Kenwood. Maybe if you guys request these Copper would carry them. Anyway, TECH671 gave you some good advice, follow his lead and you should be fine. But if I were you, I'd run a stock rig. CB has the worst band allocation for interfering with consumer TV channels so you really need to stay as legal to avoid problems. GL and 73--Kirk AB8BC
