Just got a new Wilson 1000. My last one kept going for 7 years and even weathered a roll-over vehicle accident. I always noticed that the PL-259 connector would, after time, fail because of a sloppy connection at the end of the coax. The outer case of the coax would work free from the crimp and expose the braid. Over time the braid would bend and break. Well, the one I just got seems to be much better in that area. Not only is the coax a bit heavier but the connection with the PL-259 is shrink-wrapped as well. This improvement, seems to me, will give a little more strength to that connection and solve one the biggest problems the Wilson 1000 had. Steve Tech181 Tech181@copperelectronics.com |

The Wilson 5000's PL-259 is also heat srink wrapped. Both the 1000 and 5000 are excellent antennas. I wouldn't give a dime for the 'Lil Willie though - it is basically a bad radiating dummy load. Look for antennas whose whips are at least 54". The 1000 and 5000 have approx. 62" whips. 101 |
