the struthers meters are a very nice meter they are very acurate and some models even use bird elements.others have thier own much bigger elements that have four power ranges on them.
but they are not an ego meter they are in line with the bird meters.

the government uses both the bird and struthers meters on thier comunications equipment if that tells you anything.

151 working this 7940 in cornfields just got down!

Good call on the "ego" meters. If people only knew.

i love showing the guys that brag alot about thier 45 watt radio's, that they do only 8-10 real watts on rms,and about 20-25 "peak mode" in a 50 ohm dummyload.

i had a tc4002 that showed my phantom 10 tuber doing 1600 watts.and showed 1100 on my brother inlaws tc4002.

my 43,43p and struthers meters all read the same
very happy with them. and love the 43p

I had a 2 meter amp i built back in 66 using a 829B tube. It would do AM / SSB there was little FM then very nicely! When i went into the army in 68 I sold most of my station at a local hamfest and the amp went with a old heath 2 meter am radio as a pair. Well I get home and GOLLY! it had become the wonder amp ...... like you said you wonder how they come up with the readings ....Im hearing the new owner is getting 250-300 watts AM out! O it got better HE built it!
Well it died after a while .....and a realty check was done someone questioned how on a tube good for 100 watts ICAS input you could even get 300 watts peak .... much less RMS out. So 45 watts out of that $39 radio shack yep ill bet my old 2 meter buddy could have done that too! By the way i have both a drake and bird watt meter so any doubts i check it on both! ..... you got to love them!
