Has anyone used the Sirio Performer 5000 antenna? If so how do you like it? Did you try it on both 10 & 11 meters? How does it compare to other antennas? It reads like it could be the best mobile antenna ever. But I'd sure like to hear it from some of the CEF members. Izzy CEF#502

i think there great i've replaced my wilson 5000 and my 17"shaft 10k with one. one i use with a wilson mag mount the other i hard mounted it on the roof of my suburban. i also use them on 10 & 11 meters and seem to be able to consistantly talk to what ever i hear world wide on SSB just using RCI 2970's doing around the 150watt range. mine are tuned for my best swr's from 27.220 thru 28.5250 in that range swr's are from 1.0 thru 1.5 as far as compairing the sirio 5000 to the wilson 5000 by just switching them on the same mag mount it seems like i gained about 1.50 S units with a station 65 miles away ground wave on ssb but saw no real change between it and the 17'shaft 10k on my suburban so i went with the sirio 5000 on the roof of my suburban hard mounted for a lower profile and the fact you can lay it down for garages of car washes. you won't go wrong at all with a sirio 5000 if you want a base loaded antenna considering the fact also wilson quality has been a little hit and miss lately |

i havent tried the sirio performer 5k but do have the z180 [pre performer 5k] it also fits directly on a wilson mount and it seems to do as good as my wilson MAYBE slightly better. nlow for m dislikes 1/ the stinger is very stiff very hard to trim if needed 2/on my mini van i have knocked it over hitting low hanging branches 3/seems to pick up noise easier than the wilson like cars with bad spark plugs, bad transformers, ect one other note is covers a wider range of freq than the wilson, but so does a dummy load .so not sure if thats really good or not. my pick 1/for just cb band wilson 5k 2/for cb plus some of 10 meter sirio 5k dale/a.k.a.hotrod cef426 cvc#64 454 [dx numbers] 38lsb

Thanks, Radioreddz, & Dale. RR you and I are not that far from each other. And maybe it would give me about the same results. Now is it worth the price to replace my Wilson? I'll have to think about it. But it would be nice to run on 10 & 11 meters with one antenna. Izzy CEF#502

izzy, I love mine! I had it on the roof of my mini van and talked all over with it. I honestly think it did better than the 102" I was using. I have had better reports using the sirio. I held a convo with a gent from Cali on 27.455 for over an hr as I was driving thru the back woods around here. I got home switched to the 102 an he could barely hear me. Switched back an we had another 1/2 hr long convo before Amber made me shut up an eat I bought the antenna an mount a few years ago an they seem to be cheaper now. Definitely worth it though! Now I gotta install a rig an that antenna on my truck..just been to busy lol Tech565 CVC#38 Ham#243

Thanks Allen. And George he wasn't on free band. It's just a typo. You know none of us CEF members would ever do that. Izzy CEF#502

Definitely a good antenna. However, CB is a two-way communications medium, which means you have to hear the person(s) with whom you are communicating. With that said, the Wilson 1000 or 5000 will have a quieter receive due to the shunt feed scheme. FYI, magnet mounts are OK for temporary installations. If you want the antenna to perform at its best, you need to have a direct ground connection to the vehicle body, not the capacitive ground you get with a magnet mount. Best bet is a hole in the roof! Yea, I know... Some people lease vehicles, some people buy vehicles and just wuss out on making the hole for the antenna. Some people say it hurts the resale value. Seriously? As if you're going to sell the car within a year or two? After a number of years, the value is not changed one bit by a plug pushed in a small hole in the roof for an antenna. Besides, you just never know... The person interested in buying your vehicle might be a CBer or ham, and the antenna hole just might be a selling point. Every new vehicle I have purchased had an NMO mount in the roof before it had license plates, or it's first fill-up. When I sell them years later, I have never once had someone say "Well, that hole in the roof is going to knock some off the asking price".

Well my Sirio PL5000 came today. After being on backorder. And I would like to thank everyone for their info on this very tall (almost 80") good looking antenna. Now to find the time to install it and a CB or 10 meter radio in the vehicle. Izzy CEF#502

833 is right on the resale value, and in most cases I leave the mount in the roof. After the next owner may well be a CBer or Ham. SO-239 or NMO bases are not really that expensive. Tech237 N7AUS God made me an athiest, who are you to question his wisdom?

I ran a Wilson 1000 & 5000 for the last 17 years. Both good antennas. But I tuned my Sirio 5000PL with the Sirio 145 PL mag mount to 1:7 on 26.950 to 1:8 on 28.740. on my 2008 Chrysler T&C mini van. Which I feel is very good. And it's next to the rack cross bar. I had remove about 1 1/4" off the stinger. This is truly a super talking antenna. Giving me about 5 more miles over the Wilsons. And just for the freebanders. My SWR is 1:1 on 27.555 as seeing on my MFJ-259. I love the fact that this one antenna can do both 10 & 11 meters. CEF members will love it! Izzy CEF#502
