Anyone on this forum ever have or use one of the Sirio SD-27 dipoles? |

what do you plan on using one for? any reason that'd be preferred over something with some gain?
good to see you here...haven't spoken to you in a while....we've done AM 13, LSB38, 10m....with you in CW & ATL....haven't heard bodine, 350, butterbean, boogie man, or for that matter, much of the 'regulars' from there in a while. forget his #'s, 547 i think, still calls me 'double-oh-zero', have spoken with him several times since the new year. you were a newbie tech when we spoke on 10m, last summer, or was it the summer before. glad to see the general upgrade. when & where do you hang now? will try to get in there with you again one of these days. |

Hi - I am now in Clearwater Florida. Moved here 2 years ago. I live on a postage stamp size lot, and with the inverted V doublet mast and the 2 meter mast, I don't have room for radials. I sold the Maco V-58 to raise money for my Ts-480. I want to hang that dipole on an existing mast for local 10m and 11m work. The doublet does fine for DX on the HF bands, but not so well locally. I think that Sirio Dipole will work good. I am a fan of balanced antennas and balanced feed line too.
Tell the 13 crowd I said hi if you hear them. I call boogie man on the phone once in awhile.

the dipole will work ok.probaly not as good as the v-5/8.however if ya mount it flatside i think ya might enjoy it more.imho

i'm on a 50' x 200' lot which is monsterous compared to where i used to spend a lot of time over on clearwater-largo road north of 686 in largo, so i know what you mean about postage stamp sized.....
no actual experience with the sd-27, but there are more then a few of sirio's 5/8 & 1/2 wave antennas around here on long island. they all perform as well as anything else, and survive the high winds, winter extremes, and harsh salt-air environment as well as my 24 year old maco v5/8 has. i would expect their dipole to work just as well.
you mention 'locally', so i'm assuming you'd be using it vertically. have you considered an imax 2k, or even antron 99? i am definitely not a proponent of fiberglas, but the 99 especially finds its way onto the ham bands as it tunes up (usually) with just the rigs autotuner on 10-11-12-17-20. 15 is a tough one unless you have a quality auxiliary tuner, and 6 tunes sometimes, too. the builder of my 2m, 6m & 432 loops tunes 40m on his a99!
i'm not really sure the a99 will noticeably outperform the sd-27, but i'd bet you could notice a difference with the imax 2k, and neither use/require radials.
i'd already checked out your link....after this winter we've had, i WISH i was somewhere in that picture.....sand key over the bridge at the bottom, memorial causeway middle right, leading back to clearwater & the scientologists compound, pier 60 & the 'sunsets on' to the left.......lunch or dinner at 1 of the 'frenchy's'.....oh....
the ATL gang should be showing up regularly within the next 6-8 weeks, so i'll say hello for you. til the e skip starts & i head back to 6m & 10m, i'll keep an ear open for your call on 20 or 40 if you get there much. found our 10m contact in my log, '2 june 2008 0150 utc on 28.435....qsb/qrn r3 s3'. |

i agree with pat.after re-reading your origanl
post have ya concider the sirio2016 antenna
radials are alot shorter than the maco and performance wise it,d say mine is every
bit as good as the imax it replaced and
has a slightly lower floor noise level.

Well thanks for the input. Like I said, I like balanced antennas. I put the Sirio SD-27 up two days ago and it is working great. Great SWR across all of 10 and 11 meters. I am very pleased with this antenna. With the standoff that came with it, I could put it on an existing mast used for my HF inverted V doublet (the mast you see in the link above)- that was another selling point for me. |
