I want to purchase a Galaxy 99. Would the Wilson 2000 be a good match ? If not what would work best ? I plan on making the radio interchangeable from pickup to 18 wheeler. Any suggestions ? Thanks. |

Wilson 1000 ,my favorite,or Wilson 2000 or Wilson 5000 and if you're only going to run the radio with no amp the Little Will is dandy. |

I have a 99 and a wilson 2000 If your going to buy a new antenna get a wilson 5000 or a good coil type antenna you know one where you can see the large coils of metal also do your self a big favor dont buy any crapy coax or antennas from a truck stop I know they sell the wilsons thats ok |

Stay away from the 'Lil Will. Look for antennas whose whips are at least 54". The Wilson 1000 and 5000 have 62" whips. Shorter than about 54" and the antenna becomes more of a dummy load than an antenna. 101 |

I have a Galaxy 99 and run a 'LIL WIL' and have no problem getting out at all! I live in Pennsylvania, went to Baltimore,Md the other week and talked back to Pa 60 miles away with no problem(no amp) all radio and antenna! I don't think that is bad for a dummy load!!! |

I agree with 101, stay away from the 'LiL Will. It's not a very good ant. Get one of the other Wilsons. Can't go wrong with them. DX431 |

Grumpy8220: If I take 100' of RG-58 coax, connect a dummy load to the end of it and then string it across the yard I can talk to the next town over on it. 99% of my power is converted to heat in the dummy load, but the last 1% is radiated. It works, gives a great SWR, but is not very efficient. Here's an experiment you can try: Borrow a Wilson 1000 and do an A/B test between the Wilson 5000 and the 'Lil Will. I have done this; the results will surprise you. If the 'Lil Will's performance satisfies you then that is great. You only have to make yourself happy. But with the 'Lil Will's short whip and small diameter wire in the loading coil efficiency is sacrificed to be sure. For those contemplating which Wilson antenna to purchase why not spend a few extra bucks on the Wilson 1000 or 5000? 101 |

101 I ran a Wilson 1000 at one time, did not like the look on a mid size automobile, I replaced it with the 'Lil Wil' and seen no big change what so ever. I will agree to the fact if you want to run an amp the Wilson 1000 or 5000 is a much better choice! I guess it is all in what you want, I know many people in this part run the 'Lil Wil' with good results. Just my thoughts, have a good day! |

101 what kind of RG-58 did you buy???? At 27 mhz loss should worst case be about 7 maby 8 db. thats like 80%. if you got some sell it to someone you realy dont like LOL Hey i agree totaly on the antenna the larger coils and longer wip produce great returns for your added investment. I went from a 50 inch wip to a 86 inch wip on 29.6 and MEASURED almost 3 db on a specturm anz. hooked to the conector in the car both antennas useing the same mount. We agree on this one the bigger the better ! |

bruce: LOL It was some old coax that a guy had up for about 15 years. He was getting rid of it so I had him save it for me so I could test it for loss on the MFJ-259B out of curiosity. I then strung it about 12 feet off of the ground with a dummy load terminating the other end. I was able to talk to someone in the next town over (about 8 miles). 101 |

bruce: We had an discussion on the air here locally about how often one should replace his/her coax. One guy said that he had the same coax for 20 years and sees no difference in performance. After I told him the results of the above test he replaced his. Made a big difference, of course... 101 |

The Wilson trucker 2000 is a good antenna. When mounting on your pickup make sure it's on the roof or at least 3' away from the back of the cab. The longer the bottom shaft the better. |

Wilson 2000 is a good antenna,a wilson 5000 is a complete waste of money if your not running fire, but some guys are hard headed and insist on throwing thier money away.+ a wilson 2000 is rated for 3500 watts, you running that much? |
