go with the k40. i recently bought a 250 and was dissappointed with the output(140 max) but was impressed with the sound quality. then i found out mine had 1446 pills in it and the new gold tone models have mrf455's. no complaints here other than the fact that i was told in the ad that it would put out 200 to 225. i,m driving it with a galaxy 949dx and a d104-m6b, and a wilson 1000.brad.

The Palomars are serviceable amps. For the money spent it's a fair deal.
Every meter will read slightly different. Brad's radio has less than half the output of the Hp, therefore 140-180 is about all he'll see. With your radio you should get 190-225 or so. Make sure you run the radio at low power and let's hope low power is less than 2w.
The K40 Whip antennas are pretty decent. It's a little more money but the Wilson 2k trucker is a really good antenna...better than most people think. Slap it on a magmount and that setup will really go.

I am running a Grant XL with the Palomar 250 and the K40 mounted through my tool box and can not get lower than a 2 on my SWR. Do you think grounding the box directly to the frame would help lower my SWRs?

Yoda, put a mag mount under that k-4o and mount it in the center of the roof of the cab. You'll be good to go. I have run this setup and got a 1.3 swr.

My .02 worth.

yoda, assuming that you have tried adjusting the rod, make sure you use locking washers so that they bite, and yeah i would run a 8 gauge or heavier wire from antenna mount directly to frame. that way you have a solid ground. best to use stranded wire.

does anybody know what the wattage would be from a palomar dx 200b set on low, driven by a 2950 on low? my meter is not dependable and i want to know if i can run it through my AS100 which is rated at 100 watts

Brad, most of the 2 pill amps that say 225,250,300 on them will never do that kind of power. With a 16-18 watt c.b. you will see 130-150 watts, a dual final radio 170-190 tops. I just set up a guys Silver Streak 250 (two 2290's) and with a Delta Force we got 190's out of it on an Aries 460 meter on AM.
