I recently bought a Pat-12 base antenna for use at the house I'm renting. My land lord didn't want any antenna to be put up outside the house but he said OK to the Patriot since it is only 12' tall. I have it mounted so the top of the antenna is at about 21'- I couldn't get by with putting it any higher. After using an Antron 99 at my old house I was able to compare it to the Pat-12 since the location of the 2 homes are very close to each other and the same radios were used. Now I must say that the Pat-12 really does a pretty good job. It's no prize winner but I have talked skip barefoot with it several times and the construction is good with little sway in strong wind. Also my SWR is very low from channels 1-40. All in all I am happy with this antennas performance. And the best part it was only $19.99 from a closing local CB shop. |

Yep, I also picked up 2-Astatic 575 mics for $30.00 each brand new in the box and a Turner JM+3 hand mic also a Turner RoadKing 60J power mics. That was all he had left as far as mics. I wish I would have known about this place along time ago, it's about a 50-minute drive but the place looked vintage 1970's with the stuff for sale. I didn't have enough $$ to buy the deals he had. New antronn 99's Shakesphere Big Sticks and other 70's model antennas and a couple beams. He didn't have that good of deals on radios but you could get a Robyn 520D for $50.00. Thats the first good deal I can remember getting. Man I could have cashed in if I had gotten there couple weeks earlier he said he had about 20 575's in stock. |

Since the Patriot 12 is a loaded down 1/2 wave, the Q is extremely high. That means, narrow bandwidth, and high sensitivity to other objects, not necessarily metal. Even a wood tool shed in the H-plane of the antenna will affect it. In order to enjoy success with this antenna, it is important that it be located in the clear, with nothing around it. One of my 10m beacons uses a Patriot 12 antenna, and it works very well. It is no comparison to the Antrom 99. But, it is a great antenna if you are restricted. |

Need suggestions on this anteanna... We can not get the SWR below 2:9 on any cb channel.. SWR's did dip low at 25 mhz... Antenna was tested in the open space with nothing around it. Coax was tested and is good..We even tried 3 different coax cables. Same result. We gave up and threw up a A-99 which had a SWR of 1:1 with the same coax and in the same area. Any suggestion??? The PAT-12 is like an A99 except it is one big loading coil at the bottom. It is very sensitive to ground below it. I tamed one down for a friend by adding ferrite snap-on chokes to the coax cable and adjusting their distance from the connector at the antenna for tuning. Your radio 'Mythbuster' since 1998

Ok thanks for the suggestion Tech833...The A-99 is working good for him so I doubt he will want to change.... But I'll write this down for future reference...Thanks! Road Warrior / CEF 375 Tyrone, PA (Jim) Local ch. 27.505 Am or LSB
