I have a K30 mag mount antenna that I use with a New Cobra 148GTL that I put a slight tune on it 4-12 watts and a D104B hand held mike, I have no problem talking back to my Base 25 miles away on a clear channel, I am amazed, has anybody had the same kind of luck????? |

I once had a Cobra 148GTL mounted on a tricycle handlebar with a K30 mounted on the back basket bar. I too was able to talk back to the home base all over town and once around 20 miles from the base. Never again, I was hit by a car. I lived the Cobra was killed so was the K30. George CEF#Ø476 KI4NBE HAM#181 CVC#Ø14

Yes! A well tuned barefoot Cobra 148 with a good antenna placed perfectly on the vehicle does really well when conditions allow. Just think if it had a little help. The base reciever seems to be working very well too. I once ran a barefoot Cobra with the Predator 10K and got 30-35 miles mobile to base! Gotta love them 148's! KEEP IT REAL! I bought a K30 mag mount and put it on a pick up truck to use with an unmodified Uniden PC-122 radio. I had to trim about 1.5 inches to get the SWR to 1.1 on ch19 and 1.6 on ch1 and ch40. It's not a very wide banded antenna, but it's a good value if you don't operate out of band or use an amplifier. |

Has anyone trimmed one to 28.300-28.500. I think that I will try it to operate in the tech freq's |

not much luck here with the k30..had hooked with a 2950dx and got bout 10or so miles with it back to the base..biggest problem is the swrs..got a little over 1.5 on each end but that was day time..checked er in the morning with a little dew on the roof and your almost in the red..tried 3 new different ones.same result..even worse if its raining.. |
