does it look like a texas star? probably is one. post a pic or look at a ts on their site. otherwise, open it & look inside & see if it has 4 x 2sc2290. if so, turn radio down & adjust til amp keys 75-100 watts, turn mic gain up til it swings around 350, plus or minus. |

I have an old bi-lateral amp and it is capable of running the 6 meter and the 10 meter band automatically. So I'd imagine thats what the bi-lateral means. I would be careful because most likely it is modded for 11 meter. Like Pat stated I too would look inside and see what transistors your dealing with before I fired it up. KEEP IT REAL! Bi-Lateral is a term used on the old Texas Star amps. When I mean old I mean 25-28 years old. |

Nah, the term is older than that, and it wasn't just Texas Star. "Bi-lateral" refers to the linear amplifier's ability to amplify incoming and outgoing RF. I think what people are calling it now, is "bi-linear"... which makes no sense. "bi-lateral, linear amplifier" 1. bi-lateral Indicates something going two different ways, or using two different sides. In this case, the function of the "box" acts on both received and transmitted RF signals. 2. Linear Indicates the mode of amplification of the RF signal. More specifically, the "linear" region of the transistor's transfer function curve. 3. amplifier Indicates the function of the "box".. ie to increase in amplitude, the RF signal. ... and of course I could be old enough that the terms changed without me knowing it. ;) Rich
