In real life it depends on your input power to the amplifier and how hard you want to drive it and also the radio you are using to drive it with and your station setup. I drive mine with 20 watts input from the radio, with the mic gain on the radio open 1/4 to 1/2 with the JCD-201M base microphone and it swings to 275-300 watts with no problem. I hate to see/smell amps that go POOF from being over driven. Hope this help's, Lon ~ Tech808 ~ N9CEF CEF#808 ~ CEF HAM#001 ~ CVC#002 Tech808@copperelectronics.com

On my BLA-300, I see about 200w output with a 5 watt CW tone input. On SSB with a steady tone at about a 10 watt drive, I see 300w output. This is driving it easily so as not to trip the protection circuit, but I did trip the protection circuit one day while trying to see a bit more output on 75 meters. Glad the circuit is there. I like the amp. It serves me well as I don't run power on HF often, so for the price of the amp, it works for me. Also keeps me from having to run my FT-847 @ 100w if I do need to QRO. I am considering this amp for my next purchase. I currently run a Kenwood TS430S and was wondering how (and if) this amp might match up to it (with power from the radio set accordingly)? The "auto band switching"; can anyone shed some more light on this for me? I assume it will automatically detect the band you are transmitting on... I have had great luck with the HBF 500 digital meter and Lo Pass filter on other radios. |
