You must mean freebanding. It is operation outside the FCC assigned channel 1 - 40 frequencies. Generally 27.405 to 27.995 Mhz. Just do a search on "freeband" and you should get a few hits.

FreeBanding is talking on frequency's not assigned to CB, most common referred to the band between channel 40, 27.405, and 28.000. CB'ers or Hamsters that talk in this space are freebanders. Same for the frequency below channel one, 26.965. Are you a freebander Nowhereman, most of us are. Even if you just have a 40 channel radio, and it has a clarifier or slider that moves TX, you May be a freebander, if you talk on the RC channels, you MAY be a freebander, lol. enough of that foxworthy i guess. scrapiron

Basically my friend new yorker...freebanding is transmitting from 25.165 thru and until channal 1(26.965) and then again from 27.415- one channel above forty..til 28.000. these are the frequencies that consist of freeband. above the standered forty channels youll shoot some of the most wild sideband to other countries such as england ect... below standard channel 1 become the am fun for alls!! basically its a place to get away from some of the trouble makers that only run the 40 regular channels. these below channels are great to say talk to florida like evryday when skip is in or texas. these are the usual ones youll hear here in ny where i am all the time. Basically the idea is to shoot skip or talk to long distant stations on these frequencies. Basically have fun and have less trouble then on the standard cb channels. wheres the basic general area your in dont tell me a town just an area maybe weve talked already... hey good luck

well im my opinion "freebanding" is just operating outside of the cb frequencies but not in the ham frequencies i think alot of why people do it is that it has to do with the frequency is quieter (sometimes) lol.
dont let the term fool you ITS ILLEGAL!! be careful and "Talk Smart"

here is a web page i found just by typing freebanding in a search engine i hope it helps

http://www.dxheaven.f2s.com/11m/freeband.htm

Disclaimer: I do not encourage the operation out of band. It is illegal and out of band operation can interfere with several other services. The author of this post will be in NO WAY held responsible for actions taken by readers. :)

It gives a guy a chance to get away from the usual BS on the reg 40. Most of the guys above ch 40 run SSB primarily LSB and alot of the guys usually are decent but you get a few psychos on there but nothing like the reg 40. At least up above and below most of the converstations are of a higher intelligence level than the profanity, putdowns, and general hostilites on the 1-40...

JUST A QUICK NOTE TO SAY IF YOU ONLY HAVE AN AM RADIO A LOT OF GOOD AM SKIP CAN BE HEARD ON 27.525o IT HAS BEEN USED FOR YEARS FOR AM. WE(most of us) TRY NOT TO USE THE UPPER FREQ's FOR AM AS MOST OF IT IS USED FOR SIDEBAND OPERARION. JUST A NOTE OF INTEREST. HAVE A GOOD DAY. OHIOBIKER..."575"

2990, your right, the sidebanders above 40 seen to have more respect for other operators. I've talked out of band ever since the SSB radios came out in the early 1970s. You almost had to if you wanted to use SSB, some people that didn't have it just intentionally tried to interfer on the CB band. Before the 40 channels came out, 27.305 was the internation SSB skip-shooting channel. When the 40 channel started, the Sidebanders moved on up. I do kinda get put out with the hamster wanna-be's on the freeband trying to control or make rules, also the constant Q-code thing sounds as ridiculous to me as the 10-4 good buddy channel 19 crap. They should listen to the Ham bands more, discover they can talk without ending every sentence with QSL??? Even though I prefer SSB, I now enjoy the AM talkers below channel one much more than those above 40. QSL?? ha, just my opinion, and what do I know, i'm older that dirt.

Hey Ohiobiker, are the old CJ bunch still fighting sidebanders and trying to talk on 27.525. I've turned across there quite a bit, but mostly hear mexican SSB now. Maybe some of the high power bunch quit. What happened to ol CJ 1 out in Arizona, I believe, did someone shoot him or what, I believe he was the worst talking dude I remember on CB, I've heard worst on Ham. There use to be some high power CJ's around where I live in Arkansas, but I think most of them died out or quit, you might have talked to some of them, can't remember their CJ numbers right now, although I know their CB handles.
