Don,

The 300P is a straight up AM/SSB amp with pre-amp. It has two power levels LO/HI. The preamp does not run independently of the RF amp. So you can't use the pre-amp without using the RF amp. This amp has (2) SD-1446 transistors that are rated at 70 watts a piece. Mobile applications will allow this amp to do 190 watts tops. I did a full review of this amp and it's posted on this site in the subscriber section.

The 351P has a switchable preamp, and 6 output power levels. It has (2) MRF-455 transistors that in a mobile application will probably do around 175 watts PEP.

Feed both amps with no more than 3 watts in.

If I were you I would go with the 351P. It has more power levels, and the switchable pre-amp. The power output difference is marginal and for $10 is a great value.
