Hi everyone, I having trouble uploading pictures, I cant make them smaller than 50 kb's. I even put my camera on 1 megapixel and then picture is still around 400kb. Even resizing it down to 320x240 the size is still 111kb's. Could someone give me the secret to getting these smaller please? Thank you. |

Scoobydoo, You Reduce the size with your Picture program on your Computer. You should Crop all excess out of the Picture except exactly what you want to show. No matter what your Camara is set at you can adjust / reduce the size of all pictures. Most all cameras will come with an editing program or you will need to install one on your computer to edit / crop your pictures. Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9OSN |

Scoobydoo, I use a program called xat to compress my images. You can download a free demo at Xat.com The demo is limited to saving only in the jpeg format but it will convert most image formats to jpeg. Compressing a file doesn't necessarily mean shrinking the dimensions of the file. Take a look at this page and see if you can tell which image is compressed and which isn't. The uncompressed image is 80,670 bytes and the compressed image is 13,670 bytes. To see the size of each image right click on the image and choose properties. The compression was done using the Xat demo software. |

Also, make sure that the resolution of the image is 72 dpi. If possible, use the "save for web" feature to get the image file size as small as possible. |

i need some help with uploading my pics onto the forum. by too big; i dont mean that the file size is too big. i downloaded XAM and compressed the files until they were smaller than 50,000. usually they ended up at about 46-47,000. the problem is that when i went to preview my post with the attatched photos; they took up the whole screen and were very pixelated. can anyone tell me how to change this? when i compressed the files; i put the "magic compress" at 100% and the JPEG quality usually had to be about 13 to work. the sooner they work, the sooner you'll see 'em! thanks, matt |

Kid_vicious you need a photo editing program like Photo shop pro Adobe photo shop I use Adobe photo shop 7 once I have done all the cropping I then go to image size making the width and height 300x300 pixels then I click on file, save as, best to save as .jpg then click save, a JPEG Options pop up will come up,there I pick medium quality, this puts me at or under the 50 kb's limit for the forum or maybe I'll just Vollunteer my time in resizing pic's for the forum knowing this will help the forum mods, techs and master out? 485, Try reducing your picture a little more and NO you do not need to pay to post pics. Submit all of your Pictures to the Members Pictures Area of the Copper Forum. If you use xat.com you can reduce the size even more and still keep the quality of the picture and not lose anything. Hope this help's, Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9CEF CVC#2 |

I use the Adobe Photoshop CS2 "Save For Web" feature. It works GREAT! Actually, any version of Adobe Photoshop that is version 6 or later has this feature. It's a little spendy, but I got hooked on it first when I was a network technician and later when I was a web developer. Now I are a truck driver...go figure |

50 Kb, is ridiculous. What is the bottle neck? Need donations for a bigger HD? I would throw in a few bucks to be able to upload a normal size shack photo, like 500kb or so? I'm sure most would like to do the same??? Forummaster Note : Wow! That's pretty insulting. First you insuate that we don't know what we are doing then you imply we are cheap. If you want to understand why we set the 50k limit check out Wildrats thread in the Members Pictures section. Just guess how long that takes to download on a dialup connection. I'll await your apology. For everyone else check out the two images at this link. Click Here! One is under 50k and the other is just under 260k. You can compress an image pretty drastically without losing much of the clarity. |

i understand his post, he's frustrated. as a lot of us were when we first tried to upload some pics, cropped the stuff out of them, and they were still too big filewise. how happy we all were when we discovered xat.com which allowed us to compress the file size without sacrficing picture quality. i can tell you that i have no problem with the file size limit now that i know how to work with it. hey 738, i cant even count how many frustrated posts ive made to date. most of them were thankfully deleted. this place is family to me, and just like any family; sometimes the parents make rules we cant understand. we usually do later. im never moving out!!! matt |

Wow! Sorry I did not mean anything, but looking at the post I guess it could be read that way. Yes I was frustrated after playing around with it for more than 2 days with no luck. I was trying to start something that I thought would be of help. I know nothing of your opperations. I do know that many if not most of my fav. sites are in need of money and frequently have a little note someplace asking for donations. My thinking was that may have been an issue, and that if it was, some of us I am sure would not mind helping out. I am far from well to do, as a matter of fact I have the lowest paying job I have had since the 70's at the moment, but I was willing to help if that was an issue. Sorry the post was taken the wrong way, digital photograhy is a hobby of mine, so you must understand my mindset. I work with some big files, and use on-line storage, and 4mbs service. I ment the "ridiculus" relating to my opinion of the file size nothing else. I don't always write perfectly when I am tired. I will go back to reading posts, and post only related to radio..... Thank's for good the input guys, I will look into xat.com and see what I can do... |

Another reason is because some of us are on dial-up and loading pages worth of large images would take FOREVER. Wiht the way the forum works we canot edit posts. I would love to get rid of obsolete pics from my section but you know how it goes Chad |

738, please dont get discouraged and go back to sandbagging. we need all the posters we can get. if you could see how many people visit this site everyday and never say anything, you'd be very surprised. we've all been misunderstood, and some of us (ahem) have even written somewhat nasty notes to the mods, and everyone still gets along great. lots of mutual respect around here. keep up the posts! matt |

Crackshot, You might want to find out the facts before complaining. The problem isn't with the forum. We set the 50k limit because of download time. Go to the members picture area and look at Wildrats images. See how long it takes you to download the page. All the pictures on that page are less than 50k. Imagine how long it takes for someone with dialup(56k per second) to download these images. Forummaster CEF001 CVC001
