Starting Monday, I'll be in a new Truck. That Old Blue Freightliner is being put to the pastures. My Omega and Palomar will have a new dash to sit on. I'll be using my peredator (SPL?)10 K will be resting on a new Chrome Mirror Mount. I hope it grounded. Not to keen on adding more wires to the new Truck to make a ground.

From time to time I listen to a trucker program on AM radio early in the morning, and I've heard folks say nasty things about Freightliners. Any idea why?

There's no reason, just like people talk about Ford, Chrysler,Gm or the inports. Or we can even talk about Radio's. Galaxy,or Magnum. I prefer Magnum. I had a DX33 Galaxy, for an AM radio it's ok. It's not want I like in a radio.
It's the same with a big truck. That Radio Trucer DJ could have been sponsered by an other Company. IE Peterbuilt..
We have our sayings. Petes,Volvo's called Swedish Peterbuilts. International= cornbinders, Frieghtliners=freightshakers to name a few.
I'll elt you know in a month or so if I made a bad decious

Good luck with it. There are lots of Freightliners and Volvos where I work, and because they're all independent contractors, they buy what they want. Very rarely do you see a Peterbuilt, Sterling, Western Star, or Kenworth.

In my opinion, a smart OTR driver would look for what is cheap, reliable and gets the best gas mileage. At least that is my thoughts towards buying a truck.

Alot of Owners like Peterbuilts, which are great trucks, no doubt about it; but pushing that Pete 379 thru the air at 70mph is like throwing a brick compaired to a Kenworth T600 or some of the other more aerodynamic trucks out there.

Personally, I'm looking more towards a Mack, Volvo or Freightliner Century. Maybe next year I'll take the leap and buy my own. Who know's.

I'm alos interested to hear how that setup and truck works out for you Truckerdon.

Be safe out there! And dont haul cheap frieght!

Mister455 I agree with you partially on getting a truck that is more aerodynamic but the reality is driver comfort is the really big issue, sure a T-600 or something might get a 1/8 of a mile more milage over another truck with the same motor but the big issue with mileage is gearing, and gears. Plus who wants to dive an ugly truck? LOL

Our trucks where I work average 5 1/2 to 6 MPG but these trucks are worked hard and in our fleet we have Macks, KW's, Petes and one Volvo that nobody wants to drive.

The Pete's and the KW's all have the 3406 Cat in them and are worked hard and never driven the way they should, but hey how much better mileage could you really ask for with the way these trucks are beat on.

We also have one KW with a Detroit 60 in it and it by far does the best mileage, but this is the only truck out of about 100 that is strictly over the road.
