Well, with the hood, and the trunk up it looks like N.C. needs to get better cars; looks like that thing is broke down. I don't know why a broke down patrol car would be a truckers worst nightmare but, ok. sg569 |

Just another broke-down Ford! LOL! (Just kiddin') Hmm, I wonder if we could get those guys to go after the truckers with them "extra" channels and a-talkin' on 10 Meters. NC did pass a law to enable them to enforce CB rules/interference, ya know. |

HAHA..that's a picture of a toy dude!! But I know what you're saying... This is the open forum..I just thought I'd break the ice a bit!! If that junk of checking for 10 meter rigs in trucks starts or has started in this state, then yes, this is the worst thing a trucker here wants to see. I can see them wanting to get you for using it on 10 meters and not being licensed, but converted and on 11 meters...bull. |

I'm glad everyone is getting to joke about this...haha. I remember when they had Caprices...wonder why don't anymore...hmmm. I didn't know there was a law passed for them to do anything about cb's.

I'm glad everyone is getting to joke about this...haha. I remember when they had Caprices...wonder why don't anymore...hmmm. I didn't know there was a law passed for them to do anything about cb's. As of Dec 1, 2004! It follows the "Local Enforcement" law, PL106-521 signed by Clinton in 2000. As to the Caprices...I got this straight from several NC troopers. They hung onto those Caprices as LONG as the state would LET them. Six years later NC still had '96 Caprices in their Motor Carrier fleet (those blue ones) Why? More comfortable and the LT1 Caprice would eat a Crown Vic for LUNCH! LOL! Trooper told me he was in a chase with a CV when a State Caprice hove in to view in his mirror. At 90 MPH, the Caprice PASSED him while he was flat-out accelerating, pulled in front a car length ahead and continued to gain on the fleeing motorist until he was right on his bumper. Made him feel about 2" tall! THAT's why they didn't WANT to let go of 'em. Now NC is using *some* Impalas with Police Packages that are equal to the CV in speed and handling--it just ain't quite as comfortable as the Crown Vic. Me? I'll opt for the Chevy anytime because I got tired of walking to summon help when I was F ound O n R oad D ead! ;) LOL!

True, no reason to have a 10 meter radio. Of course you could just listen, you don't have to transmit. And most all truckers have Connex or Galaxy radios installed in their trucks..converted to 11 meters. I could get started about the Ford vs. Chevy thing...but that's not why I posted that picture. Anyway...I'm glad you guys are having fun!! |

I live in a small town of about 3000 people. Its quiet most of the time. A drug bust here and there and some thefts reported from time to time. Since i've been living, 44years, theres been 2 murders and 1 kidnapping. Not bad. Our sheriff is Andy Taylor and his deputy Barney Fife...LOL.. No, seriously knock on wood, its been quiet. |

My rule of the day was--Never go farther than you can walk back before dark! ;) Now that I have pulled your chain, I have a confession to make. I DO have a Ford after 30 years of swearing I wouldn't. Um..........its a 1931 Model A!!!! Lots of fun to restore and drive.

I will say this so that your chain yankin' attempt won't be wasted...you guys must have gotten all the lemon's, cause I've never had a bad Ford. Can't say my GM was bad either. I love you guys!!! |

Kennjen, The Picture is of a North Carolina Motor Carrier Enforcement Officers car. For a OTR Driver or Big Truck driver it is a nitemare. They Operate the Chicken Coops / Weigh Stations and Check Everything, Log Books, Papers, do Complete Truck Inspections and literally are a giant headache for OTR / Truck Drivers. The one thing a trucker hates to hear the MOST is the words "PULL AROUND BACK" at a weigh Station or see mr DOT with lights on pulling you over. They can also DOT (another word for inspection) you on the side of the road. Some are VERY PICKY and others are ok. THEY are a Trucker's WORST NITEMARE! CONGRATULATIONS ON PASSING YOUR TECH TEST! As soon as you get your License let me know and I can issue you a CEF HAM # Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9OSN |

Man, they couldn't name that agency better ? Call it, Transport Vehicle Enforcement or some thing... I just never ever knew what a "Motor carrier Enforcement" was..... Live and learn. |

You guys just don't get it do you???????????????? So for one last act, here we go: FORD = DROF Translation: Driver Returned on Foot! Keith in Atlanta 1969 Z - 28 all the way - no I did not have one, had a 1968 Camero SS 396. Got my first ticket in city of Atlanta. Judge threw the book at me. Cost me $100, time off from work, and a whole lot of worry. At $100 a week before taxes, a $100 fine was HIGH. but I slowed down for sure.

TheRealPorkChop, LOL! Glad we can have a bit of fun in here. Now I love that old Model A of mine. It is just, well, FUN! I mean it is bit rattle-y (is there such a word?), no AC, no Power Steering, no Auto trans, and *can* be a handful if you aren't watchful. The transmission has NO syncronization and you have to do a lot of double-clutching, an art I fear has almost been lost amongst car drivers. But it is LOTS of fun. Actually, when you tilt the windshield outwards, it's not bad at all once you get going! I take it to car shows and cruise-ins or just get out and drive a little. However, with the price of gas, that could come to an end--at least for me. |

In this state it use to be called DMV Enforcement. They had sky blue cars with some white and red on them, kinda like the state flag. They recently changed to the same color scheme as the Highway Patrol. I drive a truck, well a dumptruck, but none the less the rules apply to me too. I just posted it cause this is the OPEN forum. Just thought I'd post something besides a CB related topic since this is the OPEN forum. But, they do have CB's in those cars. They do listen to the Super Truckers on 19. They also have started listening to us on the asphalt channel...22. I've said all I can about Ford vs. Chevy. Almost bought a 69 RS/SS 396. But I opted for a 66 Mustang. Still have it today, it was my first car, and I'm now 32. I agree Rover, I love the older cars, Ford or Chevy. They had style to them and personality. Love to go to those car shows and see the rods and custom classics. It's also nice to see the restored cars too. I've been in the paint/bodywork business since I was about 16. Between that and messing with my truck, I'm really to busy to even be in CB/Ham. Hopefully thanks to Lon, now everyone knows what a DOT man is or Motor Carrier Enforcement. What do they call it in your state? |

rover, i wanted a red 67 fairlane fastback, with 390ci 330hp motor. only $800, in 1971. i probably would have got killed. i eventually did get a 67 fairlane. i liked it, but didn't keep it but a couple years. my favorite was a 73 ranchero, with a 429ci that i had built to my specs - over 500hp. loved it, but for medical reasons had to sell it. camaro 6cly huh, automatic? or how many trannys will it take to teach her stick shift? my father said it took 3 trannys & 2 rearends to teach my mother. he never tried w/my sister - she still can't drive a stick & she's 47. |

Twowatt, My daughter absolutely refuses to learn to drive a stick no matter what I say. Tried everything in the book (what if there's an emergency and there's only a stickshift, what if........, etc). My S-10 is a stick, so she won't drive it. I don't really care which it is; I've gotten so used to shifting I pay it no mind. But then, when I grew up, stickshift was the norm, not to mention all the farm tractors. It is how NC got a ready pool of school bus drivers in the early days. All us farm kids running John Deere tractors! 4-speed with granny low, and muddy dirt roads to get stuck on! LOL! BTW, if she gets a Camaro, she will be paying for it mostly herself! I think the practice of "giving" kids cars is not a good thing. Are we spoiling our young 'uns this way? I'll help her, but she'll learn about caring for a car herself. |

FORD = Flip Over, Read Directions / Funny Okies Really Dig'em, Fouled On Race Day... I'll stop there I learned to drive a stick on ONE tranny and ONE car. Trick I learned is to slip the clutch until you get the hang of starting out( after starting from a dead stop everything else is a cakewalk all you have to do is wind the motor up a little). My MOM taught me to drive. sg569 |

Man the puns toward Ford never ends huh? I'm happy I don't remember them all or even the ones for GM's products. Well, Get a Mechanic Coming, I do remember that. Something about a Cheap Heap Every Valve Rusting or something like that. And I won't say the Pontiac one, cause I just don't like it. Huh, my first car was stick. Just hopped in and drove off. I don't blame anyone for NOT wanting one of them. When I was younger that was all I wanted, but I drive a truck everyday, and when I come home I just wanna ease it back to D and mash the loud peddle. Beside, if you are racing, you'll never be as consistant as an automatic.

PC I find when I drive the wife's Durango I feel uneasy cause I ALWAYS look for the clutch and get ready to downshift coming to a corner or stop Just kinda weird for me As for racing automatics....... A clutch is cheaper than a tranny rebuild At first it was tough to get consistent times, then it got VERY consistent and non varying on track temps heating the auto tranny. I went from a supercharger to nitrous (DUMB) and even though it's spray was computer controlled with the engine management I felt that the nitrous inconsistency was more than my beginning drags in a manual. I ran an auto for a while and just like the fact that you can feel the engine and squeeze a tad more if it's running well. Now let's all go out and buy a bunch of gas and burn it up at the track Chad |

I'm fixin' to trade soon. Probably another S-10. This one has been a good one, but I expect I'll start having wear trouble after 150,000. I mean, the old truck is almost 10 years old and it can't help wearing out eventually. I just replaced the brakes all round and put a couple tires on it ( I had to do that to pass state safety inspection). Mine is a stick, and I don't really pay it all that much attention. Sure, an auto is nicer, but I just got used to swapping cogs, so I really don't notice it. My next truck will be whatever it happens to be--stick or auto--whatever it turns out to be and I like *that* particular truck. But I'll still be wearin' a bowtie! ;) (Don't let us bug ya with the Ford stuff!) 73

Oh you guys don't bother me. I love my Fords whether anyone else does or not. I just don't agree with the stick vs. auto when it comes to being consistent. It's hard to a stick to keep up with a good auto and matching stall. |

Ok heard from the ford and dm guys but what about Mopars?15 Years ago we pulled a 69 hemi Road Runner out of a barn with a blown motor, paid $2500.00 for it.We worked on the car for 5 years,it was in bad shape.I still the car and with over 720 hp to the rear wheel with out the little blue bottle(that adds from 250 to 500) i have yet to see a GM or Ford stay with it for more than a half a mile. There are faster cars out there but not many. whats really fun is smoking those 1000 cc crotch rockets, man they get mad when a 36 year old car runs off and leves em. Remember anything less than a Hemi is just second place! |

Honestly, I don't know if they are "originals" or not. I just know there are one or two that show up at the Stanley, NC meet at Hardees on Friday nights. I just know they are blue and grey, say "427" Cobra and have that racing body. If they are reproductions, honestly, I didn't look at them that hard. I don't "really" dislike Fords, I was jerkin' TheRealPorkChop around a little. I've kinda gotten attached to "Henry", my old '31 Model A. And that's a Ford.

The first of the little cobras were 289 powered.with the success of the 289 they thought that if a little was better than more would be great and installed a high riser 427.Factory rated at 425hp they really made over 500 hp and in a car that was around 2300 pounds had to be one heck of a ride!If you wanted a real cobra today and offered someone $300.000 they would tell you to go where the sun dont shine, right now you would need at leat $750.000 for one.Last sunday here in Newton they had a big cruse in down town, they have it every year and around 700 cars tured out.At the cruse a few years ago a man came up to the owner of a 66(i think)427 cobra with $750.000 CASH and was turned down buy this guy who has many high dallor ford muscle cars in 3 or 4 big buildings behing his business. Those are about the only muscle cars(cobras) that have held there valuie, mopars on the other hand keep going up.Some guy wanted to trade a 1 year old dodge viper and $100.000 for mine,i said no. |

My "A" is pretty original and I intend to keep it that way. It does have some concessions to modern life like a 12 alternator and halogen lights and turn signals. These days, people don't know what hand signals are! I don't intend to get killed with my hand sticking out while someone plows into me jabbering on a cell phone. The running gear otherwise is original down to the old "friction" shock absorbers. I am gradually bringing my A Model up to "driver" condition--one that looks good on the road, but not necessarily "show" condition. I just want to be able to somewhat experience what it was like in those days chuckety-chukking down the road at 40 MPH. It needs paint and an interior and that's it (some of the interior panels are missing but the insides and doors have been painted ready for installation of the panels. It starts and runs great: pull the choke out 3/4, tap the gas, retard the spark lever and tap the starter on the floor. Then away I go! Now when I get this one done, there's the matter of a 1951 Willys military jeep I am also restoring. |
