Can anyone give suggestions to new 2005 vehicles that would be less picky than others when running power? Say a 4 pill? I'm in the market for a new car or minivan (don't laugh LOL!), 4 door, and want to be able to easily mount my gear in it and run power without frying the on-board computer. Any suggestions? |

Ford Crown Victoria. Mount the antenna smack dab in the center of the roof, above the glass line. The only problem I see, is that you may pick-up fuel pump noise in your Receive, from the pump doing it's thing, moving the old petrol. use good quality coax on the antenna and patch cords, to prevent rf leaks into your computer. Don't use the cheap stuff. Mini 8x is good. Hope this helps. Wolverine.

As I recall, those 100 watt radios were VHF ham amplifiers. In the Ford 5.0 Mustangs, those amps would cause the "Passing gear" to kick in, if you are driving, and decide to key up the linear. I recall that the article stated that VHF hi- frequency rf, can seep into all kind of nooks and crannies, to get to the car's computer, as opposed to lower frequency 11 meter amps. The article also went on to say, that it doesn't help, that a foreign export car's sheet metal is not as dense as their american counterparts. This was an old article in I believe was, Popular Communications. Wolverine. |

i seem to remember it being mentioned in QST, but, yeah, that's how the story went...& why the big bad cbers use their '80's chevys for BIG watts. |
