If you were going to build or if you have already built your CB or HAM Shack, how would/did you do it? Mine will be air conditioned and heated. Dorm frig and water fountain. Internet access with phone line. Carpeted flooring with sheetrock walls and ceilings. Fully insulated with storm windows and storm door. Intercom system linked to my house, so my wife can tell me when "playtime" is over. Color TV with DirecTv and cable. Fold out couch for when I get "tired". I might even get Coke or Pepsi to come put a drink machine outside the door, why not? I think I'll get one of those vac-shoots from an old bank so my wife can just swoosh my meals outside to me...haha. Can't forget the microwave...need a way to heat up my meals cause you know they are going to get cold.. How about you? |

Ok, I have all this except for the war department, My frig. and microwave are not far down the hallway. At 67 years old sometimes it's ok to live alone. The queen sized bed is less then 7 foot from any point of the room. With a room set up like mine playtime is 24/7/365. The bathroom is right next to my bedroom. |

LOTS of radios ! and the walls would have pegboard so i have a place to hang anything ! and full size fridge gas heat stove old style NO carpet ! but hardwood floor ( easer to roll the comp chairs around ) and this shack would have to be BIG real BIG ! for all the radios i hope to get some day ! but most of all it has to have a porch to kick back on and drink a few with your bud's on them late nights when there is no skip ! but we are all dreaming RITE ! I wish for a concrete basement or maybe a storm cellar like they have in the midwest where you walk down some steps into an underground room. The reason would be to get the equipment much closer to true earth ground. Of course I'd want an excellent grounding system then, and would probably join the concrete reinforcements into the grounding system to take advantage of the Ufer ground. Being underground it would always be a reasonable temperature so not much heating or air conditioning would be needed. Probably just a fan and some dehumidification for the summer months, and a small heater of some kind to take the chill off in the winter. I like the cold, so anything over 50 would be fine with me so I could sit around without a jacket. And it would be right at the base of a 200' very well guyed tower structure with some serious antennas and rotors to turn them. Power? Totally off the grid and enough reserve for at least a week of full operation. Radios would be my last consideration and would vary widely depending on budget. |

On a mountain top, custom antennas omni and beams on 200 foot towers. Maybe 100 thousand watts or so.....if I needed it LOL! Lots and lots of electonics schooling to build my own line of super radios. Maybe even get a shack built on.......THE MOON! All the creature comforts and luxurys go with out saying. Finally if I could find a curly blonde hair woman, about 5'7 tall, petite build, loves to cook and loves being a woman, who is into my hobby as much as I am but more!!! What more can a man ask for? |

With a mountain top such as those back home in upstate New York, you don't need a tower also you wouldn't want one for mother nature to take down in the winter with all the ice loading. I like it where I'm at, here in south central Oklahoma. No local radios to contend with, just the interstate about a mile to my east. I have my 11 meter station the way I want it. The only addition will be an all band all mode newer, maybe not new but good used amateur transceiver and a couple of dipoles for 20 and 40 meters, my PDL-ll can do 10,11,12,15 and 17 meters with a tuner when it comes time to move on to the general class amateur license. I love Hollowpoint's idea of the basement radio room, for power I'd use my 10kw generator( ex-military- gotta love those things). I see only one prob. w/ Hotwire's 5'7" petite blonde; if she is into your hobby as much if not more than you, then you gotta fight her for the radio room. lol. She just has to be willing to key up and talk from time to time that's all, that and maybe buy new radios, and acc. for gifts, anniversary, christmas, etc... |

If I had a petite blonde, brunette or especially a redhead in my shack I wouldn't even SEE the radios! |

Well I figured we all knew the radios would just be part of the whole thing. But yes, radios, lots of radios and antenna and stuff. I guess I'm looking to build myself a tiny little house since my wife won't let me do anything I want to in the big house...haha. |
