I was on a popular auction site today and saw a D104 tug9 desk mic for sale from some one who (granted) probably knows nothing of this mic, but none the less should!!! He (or she) advertised it as a "vintage ham? radio mic" OK maybe a tug9, but probably not, most likely it was produced as recently as a year or two ago! These people realy should KNOW what they are selling before they sell it! All this reminds me of a time i saw a silver K eagle for sale listed as (something like) 1950s vintage chrome microphone! ARRRRGH!!!! If they had that technology in the 50s for ham radio we would be transporting ourselves like in startrek by now!!! Any way I know it's no big deal but it has been eating at me for a while! Any one else have some stories? I'm sure they are funnier than mine BC |

$$$$$$ VINTAGE $$$$$$$$$ One year ago meens a lot less money The ones that realy FROST me are the sellers selling old WW2 radios which had no value 25 years ago and STILL have no value. A ARC-5 transmiter sold for over $100 now 50 years ago a novice ham might have used one since they sold for about $10 NEW IN THE BOX......

I like when they advertise those three or four channel business band radios as CBs. They do that with a lot of the Motorolas. Rich |

When I run into those I have to send e-mail and tell them them that they need to learn about what they are selling and that they are misrepresenting what they are selling. You see D-104's advertised as Silver Eagles all the time. My favorite is "I plugged it in and it lit up and I heard static in speaker, so I don't know why it wouldn't work. Semper Fi!!! The ones that get me is : Yes it worked last time i used it! Or has no power cord! Oh the best one yet:I doint have a antenna but plug it in and keyed the mic works fine. Best one iv seen was : works perfect on a scale of 1 to 10 its a 10 in my book. But im not a ham and doint know how to turn it on. Yes and there a fool born every min. Not putting down internet auctions sites, And i have bought stuff from them with good results. But most of the time its better to buy new than have someones old headache. When you buy it new at least you have a warranty. Just my 2 cents worth moderator136 CEF136 kc0svc |

I saw a guy selling a Cobra 29 as a SSB radio. I politely e-mailed him and checked and he was very appreciative to know it wasn't a SSB radio. Most people just aren't big CB nerds like us |

With all the dishonesty and lack of integrity and just plain ignorance in the world today, you're just asking to get burnt when you buy at an online auction,I've got to look at it,inside and out and touch it before I'll buy, needless to say I've never used an online auction and probably never will,I'll let you guys teach everyone else what happens.Bigbob |

I think most of my radios and equipment came from that auction site. And while you can def. get burnt, it helps to ask questions to see if the person has any knowledge of radio. Look at the persons feedback and number of transactions, this will tell you if the person is honest or not. But I can understand where everyone is coming from. I see all the above mentioned all the time and just laugh and go on to the next one. |

Yeah, Bruce there are a couple of those heads advertised right now! But overall, I have done well buying and selling hundreds of items, if it is a big item I e-mail the guy first, and ask him a few questions, and if he returns the e-mail and sounds normal I do business with him, no e-mail, no business. That strategy has worked for me so far. Rich |

Bc910, Dont worry you are not alone with this in the States, here in New Zealand the latest craze on the local auction site is to call a wide band scanner a police scanner and they auction off truckloads of them. guess it's called highly imaginitive marketing. |
