The military uses rope guy wires, I had them on my tower in NM, worked fine. I also used the plastic coated wire ones once, and they did the job too. Rich |

Yes, there is a UV treated 3/16 inch olive drab in color, polyester rope that is being used in amateur radio that I think would be a good item for Copper to carry. Same rope that the military is using. The rays of the sun will in time eat up regular polyester rope. |

You can get Poly UV rated Marine Rope at your Local Walmart Store cheeper than Copper Could buy it, box it and then have you pay the shipping on it which would cost more than the rope its self. Check the Sporting Goods Dept around the Boat supplies. I just bought 100' of 5/16 on saturday for under $5.00 for Lowpowerhal to use as tie down rope when they were here and he did not need it. Hope this helps, Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9OSN |

hmmm, UV rated poly rope. i guess i would trust it if i could get to it to check it every once in a while. i guess i would trust it if failure didnt mean major damage to my antenna system, not to mention an unlucky parked car! Since i cannot check the rope often, and i dont want to pay to repair someone elses property, i'll spend the 16.00 for a 100' roll of 3/16" dacron covered antenna rope. it doesnt stretch, its rated, and its UV resistant. dont try to save money on the safety items. you'll be VERY sorry! matt |

Kid Vicious, that's the way I feel about it, the guy wires are the most important thing that keeps the tower standing. Why cut a few bucks on the most important thing. I learned this the hard way about 30 years ago, I had 70 feet of tower blow down because of rotted and stretched ropes for guys, and it had not been up that long. It was a pretty good wind, but not near enough to break steel wires. You mentioned someone else's property damage, what if some kids were out there when it came down. I'll save money somewhere else, but not on guy wires. If you do use rope you better check it regular for wear and restretch it, when it gets to moving very much there's added pressure. Just my thoughts. |

One of my friends who is a ham operator has the Dacron antenna rope./ Says its strong & works great./ So, that looks like it would be a good choice for guy wires. JIM/PA/CEF 375 |

My 39ft tower is braketed to my house at the 20ft mark & the 26 ft mark at the peak./ It's not freestanding./ I used the Walmart rope as an extra measure. It seems to work great./ I'm going to go look at my friends Dacron Antenna rope to see what its like./ After seeing this post, i started asking around to what type of guy wires my friends were using./ Some are using the Dacron Antenna rope & love it.
