i have two of these radios 25b/ 25a both have the same trouble... it doesent recieve or transmitt on these channels now the crystal for this freg. is 14.960 i believe i have replaced it once. i think it could have also been a bad crystal also doubt it. what else could cause this.. this is starting to aggrevate me |

Try cleaning the channel selector, I had trouble with the same radio years ago.hope it works!Also check to see if a cold solder on the channel switch. |

yep the old crystal plexers would do just that either a bad crystal or solder joint or switch.

How would i clean the selector would w d 40 be alright i shot some wd to it no change |

You should use an approved for electronics contact cleaner. I don't think WD40 is going to do your equipment much justice. |

It may be more than coincidence but I would still lean more towards a bad crystal.In replacing one,it doesnt take much heat fron a soldering iron to ruin one.Also closley inspect the copper traces between the crystal and switch.

Most of those old radios used two sets of crystals, 4 in one set, 6 in the other. If a crystal in the set of 4 goes out, you will lose every fourth channel like you described. If one of the crystals in the set of 6 goes bad, you will lose 4 channels in a row.
One of the techs that use to post here gave a good method of cleaning the channel selector, i've tried and it works. Pull the knob off the channel selector, hook an electrical drill to the stem and run the drill a few seconds, that will get the buildup off quick. I wouldn't do this on some of the later radios, this is for the ones with metal contacts on the selector. |
