I can't comment on the Grant. The 296 works very well and Copper is great to deal with. |

If you want a quiet receiver the Grant is a great choice.

mrsandman(hmmm, used to battle with a sandman in ct or ma on 26.835 10 or more years ago), what kind of antenna/coax are you using? you have some more drive then me, but my davemade m400 with 300dk/1kw+ swing doesn't touch the computer in my '99 durango. 117 amp alternator doesn't enjoy it though. another durango in NJ with HO alt runs a 16 pill with no problems to computer. if i remember correctly, funky station, also NJ runs BIG in a durango. 95% of computer problems is coax-cheap rg58 loses more rf though poor shielding then probably reaches antenna. i use 9913 & a mag mount & only times problems arise are if i let it fly on SSB. |

darn, forgot. the texas ranger 296 is about as close to the long gone xl & lt's as you can get. receive sounds as quiet as grants to my ears. but i believe they've been discontinued too. the new 966's or whatever they are are in. haven't looked at 1 of those yet. so boys & girls, snatch up all those 296's before they're gone, or the price goes up. |

My my thats a lot of juice. I will admit that it seems to me living in Indiana....most of the big stations I hear are from out east along the coast. Mainly from around New York. East coasters love their amps. Not that nobody else in the country is big it just seems that most hi power DX traffic comes to me from the east. Most respect! |

Well Chad, here lately the west has been loud and proud. I havent really had the conditions come in favor for the easet recently. Over the last skip cycle I must say that the east is in first pLACE. |
