Where is the back up battery located in the older
2950's and Mirage 2950's with the 13z board?

Thanks in advance, 73

It's behind the freq display, a little round flat battery, bout the size of a quarter. You can get them at radio shack, well that might be a no-no to mention radio shack, but anyway.

The only thing I see behind the display is a round black plastic device wich looks like a buzzer and has two wires red/black soldered to the back of the display marked "buzz" is the battery inside this black plastic circular device? Or is this the buzzer that beeps and buzzes when you push buttons?

Other wise I cannot locate any thing else that looks like a battery.

Thanks again in advance.

Justin

It's unlikely that any AA battery will out live a lithium coin cell, I have seen these go 10 yrs+. Current draw is nil in memory backup applications. If it is a solder in coin type, they make a standard solder in CR2032 holder so future changes will be much easier.

There is a mod that uses AA batteries in a holder. Cheap and real convienient.

But the question is how long the shelf life of the AA battery is. A lithium is pretty much going to last for 5 years sometimes lasting over 10 years. In 5 years a standard AA cell will have leaked all over the radio possibly ruining it.

Why not buy the holder for the coin cell and use the appropriate battery? With AA batteries you will be busting the radio apart every year at the minimum to replace the batteries and then reprogram.

Chad, maybe I didn't expailn myself all the way (I know I didn't)
I used a AAA holder and screwed it on the back. I used the enclosed one. It worked out pretty good! Granted the lithiums may last a bit longer but the AAA's are a lot easier to get ahold of quickly

The battery is just under the black piezo-buzzer. The buzzer is stuck to it with double-sided tape...simply peel the buzzer off and there is the 3v coin-battery.
