See, now you have me wanting one of those too. So now I'll have to decide between this one and the RCI 696 Base when the time comes. Nice looking radio. How does it compare to the Ranger base? Still leaning toward that one. |

Coyote, Actually I like it better because it does Not have the extras that the 696F SSB Base does that we NEVER use anyway. Get a FC-347 Frequency Counter with it and you are set to do a LOT of TALKING. After Conversion you will have 8 Bands that will cover from: 25.165 thru 28.755. (This is where you will need the FC-347 Frequency Counter.) And I like the Fine and Course Clarifier which the 696F SSB Base does not have. They are completely 2 diferent radios but the Simplicity and Ease of use for a beginner or more experienced operator with the S-3200B is very nice. The Texas Ranger 696F SSB Base is a GREAT Radio but we never use the: Brt/Dim or CH9 or Weather or Talk Back or NB or ANL so we have not missed those features. The Magnum S-3200B was designed to be a GREAT Low End Priced radio that performs well and it does just that with no extra bells or whistles. We have used it with the Stock Mic for the last 5 weeks (Never Turned Off) on the Sunday CEF Nets and all thru the week with very good reports from everyone. And it works GREAT with our KLV-1000 with NO Modifications to the radio. On a side note: With the TR 696F SSB Base we were always off a little on frequency when talking with Tech833 and with the Magnum S-3200B with the FC-347 we were always 100% DEAD ON FREQUENCY. Just our personal experience, Lon Tech808 CEF808 & Shirley 1st Sargant CEF164 |

Thanks Tech808, I may have to rethink my position on choice now. I like the weather band feature on the 696, but I have a scanner that has that, so I suppose I could live without it. And of course, your expert opinion is another big factor in it all. I certainly want a radio that is going to be dead on frequency. The course/fine clarifier option is certainly a big plus. And your right, I don't need Ch9, don't care for talk back feature and I already don't use the NB or ANL on my current radio. Hummmmmm.... so in all, your right, looks like the Magnum win's! |

Coyote, It sounds like you and I think along the same lines. WOW THAT's SCARY! It is a Base Radio and if I need Channel 9, I can always turn the dial. And I really do not need to hear myself talking as it might confuse me. I do not use the NB or ANL as I want to hear if other CEF Radio Club Member's are out there calling. And with my eyesight I do not need the DIM Switch on a Base Radio. Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9OSN |

OMG! That is scary, I don't need the DIM switch either, already blind in one eye and can't see out of the other. |

Noise blanker is only usefull on a noisy reciever and even then it rarely makes it much better. In my opinion of course BC |
