As some of you may know...I've been having audio problems with my HR2510, as in no audio. Today I completely disassembled the face of the raio to have good access to the backside of the mic socket. I found a wire that was barely hanging on and soldered it on good. Here's where it got interesting. I decided to hook up the radio and test it out without reassembling it...so if anything was still wrong I wouldn't have to go through the hassle of taking it apart again. Well, after I turned the power supply on I dropped the on/off switch and it fell right on the metal frame. Next thing I know.. POOF!! Dead radio. The solder pads on the board of the switch hit the metal perfectly, frying out the radio. Dead as a door nail. There was so much smoke in my shack that I could see it floating around the room. The smell was terrible. I turned the radio over and yikes! The whole trace between the transformer thing and a brown wire was gone. All that was left was a brown scorch mark, 3 inches of it. I almost cried. Then I thought, what the heck, if I killed this radio it wouldn't hurt to try something. I soldered a jumper wire in to connect the parts that the trace did. I feared powering it up. When I did...everything worked. Still no audio though. At least it's still back to where it was. Man, that scared the life out of me. I just thank god that there weren't any other components in-line on that trace, otherwise I might have killed it for good.
