Purplehaze, You will need a score of 70% or better to pass the Technician test that contains 35 Questions. Click on the Link below and start taking the pratice tests and you will have NO PROBLEM passing it on your very first try. Take two or three test's in the mornings and two or three each night and within 2 weeks you will be ready to take and PASS your test. NOTE! Do NOT read or study anything else except the practice test's on QRZ and you WILL BE a Licensed Ham. In the last 4 years out of well over 100 people that I have elmered and know of who used the QRZ Pratice Test's, I only know of one single person who did not pass the test on the first try. QRZ's Practice Amateur Radio Exams After you PASS your Test then you have the rest of your life to read and learn every aspect of the Ham Radio Hobby if You choose to. And then if you choose to you can Upgrade to a higher Class License. Hope this helps and GOOD LUCK and let us know when you pass your test. Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9OSN |

A fine Afternoon to ya Lon... Just a little chat. I have to agree that if you study just the questions you will be able to pass the tests. This is true enough. However, there are other things that need to be known as well. When I was growing up in radio I had what is called an Elmer, although I was not aware that was his job ;-). Anyway he showed me the ropes: how to solder, how to build a simple wire antenna, how to set up a station yada yada yada. BUT most importantly WHY its important to never ever put your body parts near a final tube while the juce is being applied :-o. In general the practical world stuff they do not put on the ham exams. And while the rigs of today do not permit hands on stuff by the owner like the old radios used to allow still its pretty bad when a licensed ham op has to ask how to build a dipole--and believe me I have seen that question asked way too many times on the ham BBs. I know that it is probably very impractical but hmmm somehow I would like to see a practical requirement in the testing: build me a dipole, solder this connector on, draw me a sketch of a radio station with common equipment showing what is connected to what and how. A list of practical everyday skills that the VE giving the test can at random select a practical aspect to the licensing LATER |

Purplehaze, In answer to your question, to pass the test you have to get 26 of the 35 questions correct, Lon is 100% correct on the study at QRZ.COM. A lot of us passed our test with this method. |

The test is chosen from a pool of over 300 questions, and if you take the practice tests on QRZ.COM enough times, you'll see the whole question pool. The questions you are seeing on the practice exams are the real questions that will be on your technician class test. |
