what would be the best least expensive amp that can be used with the s-9 without having to modify the radio to 2-4 watts dead key and all that stuff? ( I'm looking for a 100,150 watts amp) thank you for your opinions. |

you will have to turn down the radio unless you go up to a 4 pill no driver class amp. your radio will do 40 watt on the swing and that will overdrive any driven amp. a texas star 667 or larger is about the mininum you need. |

the texas star DX500HDV will work fine on AM, and very well on SSB. the 667 will be alright on AM with the dead key set between 2-3 watts & mic gain turned down to get swing between 20-30 watts, on SSB though, you're going to have to do a lot of fine tuning to get it to sound good. you may end up turning it down so far that it defeats the whole purpose of the radios xmit design. you don't have to open the radio to turn it down, variable power on AM can be adjusted from about 1-10 watts, use a wattmeter though, not the 1 on the radio. to turn down swing on AM & SSB you have to turn the mic gain lower. at close range, you may find you get 'scratchy' signal reports, that's the compressor feature. my S9 has worked 'not bad' with a dx350 on AM, turned way down, but then you're defeating the purpose of the radio & might as well use a stock cb, on SSB-no good, radio is too much even when turned down. there is NO 100-150 watt amp that will work good with the S9. go with the DX500HDV,easy to match, a good combo & 400+ real watts, you won't get much more out of the 667. |

oh! man dx-500hdv good combination but thats the problem I don't have that much $$$.$$ to spend. $319.99 + $285.99 = $604.99 that's too much money for me! I better stay with the s-9 alone huh? |
