Well it seems to easy, but here you go. When I was in my teens and into CB hard, I also drink WAY to much soda. So when I got on, I thought it would fit, and it did. 15 years later, and it has become me. My lic plate, a carved wooden Soda Pop sits in my room, and I still love the name. I haven't meet anyone else with it, so I guess it was a good choice! BTW - I still drink soda, still to much, but not as bad as I did back in the day! |

Well I am a computer guy, always have been since my old IBM 8088. Because of my knowledge of computers, I was given the handle "IKON" by my fellow radio heads here. I have fixed MANY local CBer's computers for them. RFIcon |

I worked at a pizza delivery place where lots of us had CBs and chatted all night long. My sister who worked there too was given the handle Speed Racer because of her lead foot. Naturally as Speed Racer's brother I was given the handle Racer X. It stuck. |

I was at a NWA Championship wrestling match years ago in my area./ A fight broke out between Road Warrior Hawk And Animal and some fans that were right in front of me./ Needless to say i didn't duck fast enough and had some teeth knocked out by a Road Warrior./ My Cb friends called me that and it stuck./ JIM/CENTRAL PA/CEF 375 |

Back in the early days of CB around 1971 or so had a bunch of guys and girls that talked on channel 13 , Lot of them had footwarmers or heaters and at the time skip was coming out of the east coast states . I was making contact every time i keyed the mic.The local gang thought i was running kw or so, we had what you call coffee brakes at the time, and they wanted to see my station. Boy was they was all disapointed all that was on my desk was a little 23 channel Lafayette 924 with a tuner +2 mic, The anttenna was a trick stick mounted hoz and a alliance u-100 rotor. One day they said there he gos again lowpower making contacts all over the place. |

Back in the 70's I was involved in two clubs and both used numbers. One was the Orange Oounty Desert Rats, and I was SC 125. Later I was with a Ohio Michigan radio club called Oscar Mary and I believe I was OM 68 or something really close to that.

I got my handle from the movie convoy back in the 70's. That was when I rode shot gun with a friend driving over the road. I was stuck with the name, the love machine as a joke from the car I drove a 1968 dodge polara with 2,4 ft fire sticks mounted on the gutters up untill the wife drove it into a parking ramp with it. They were just a little bit bent *oooops*. And when I was married the wife did not like the handle so it was changed to L&M meaning less money. pretty basic hey.

From 1982 to 1984 I just went by 392. I couldn’t quite find a name to fit so the numbers were the easy answer. These numbers are the first three digits of our phone number when I was growing up. In 1984 I was working as a AAA tow-truck driver in South Florida. A few others and myself outfitted out trucks CBs to keep free up the work freq. A few of the others already had handles and numbers weren’t good enough. I guess they ganged up on me. Well…since I wasn’t the best young man in the world and I guess my exploits caught up with me, I was slapped with the Red Devil handle. Maybe it has something to do with my red hair and Fiery German/Irish heritage. I am much older and even-tempered nowadays. I have thought about changing it but I enjoy the tradition of being GIVEN your handle. I just can’t part with my numbers or name from those days in Florida. I will proudly use the CEF447, but the 392 is used everwhere except 13. I think Road Warrior has the best story :-). But mine has history :-) CEF447 Red Devil - 392 |

When I first got into CB's I was looking for a handle. Nothing seemed to suit me. You want your handle to be an expression of yourself. I work with children and one day we happened to be watching a show called Black Buffalos Powow. His daughters name was Whitedove. He explained what the name meant, but after all these years I can't remember. I knew that was the handle for me. I've been Whitedove ever since.

Well, no one gave me my handle.. really, some guys I work with one day put this big picture of Wile E. Coyote up above my desk at work and had my name with an arrow pointing to it. I guess because I was always tinkering with things and had always repaired or built their computers for them plus my boss always told them I was a genius only because they didn't have a clue of how to operate or work on computers and I was always the one they came to to fix or teach them how to do something, still do even though I don't work there, they still call me when they have a problem... guess that was the reference they intended.. Wile E. Coyote, Super Genius. But my original handle year's ago was Calypso, which I came up with myself because I like the way it sounded. It came from Jacque Cousteau, it was the name of his ship he always used and I always watched his specials when I was young. When I got back into CB after 20 years off the air, I used the handle Old #7, my preferred drink and I live fairly close to Lynchburg and I collect Jack Daniels stuff. But no one around here could ever remember the "Old" part of it and called me just #7, which most of them still do. So I told one old guy that since he couldn't remember my real handle and called me by whatever he could think of, Maverick, Wrangler were just a few, I told him to just call me Coyote. Well... he hasn't forgotten that one yet.. so that's what I use, along with #7 as well. Long story, I'm sure your sorry you asked now. |

I drove for a guy who was not class A licence. The DOT got to know my truck. Since Ridge Runner has be taken by a few guys. I've taken up Coffee Hound on CB and on Side Band I use the CEF 336. CB Handle ~ Catfish or 808 When I was about 5 years old My father and Uncle took me catfishing and I caught one and when they were showing me how to get it off the hook it horned me. I went to my uncles truck and got the jack handle and beat that cat FLAT and they said I was mean as a catfish. Guess it stuck. The 808 comes from using Zebco 808 reels only for catfishing. My AM name is Desperado, and here goes. As a lot of you know I am a retired cop, and in the days before they started making plasic seats for the back of cop cars, the bad guys would dump dope, knives, guns, money down the back seat, so when they got booked, they wouldnt get busted with contraband. Well every car I used I tore the bottom of the back seat loose from the mountings. One day in Roll call, the supervisor was all peeved off, and said "Ok who is the desperado who is tearing the back seat out of police cars??" No one said anything to him, but from then on Desperado I was!!!!!! An am. Rich |

My original handle Super Sport came from my 1969 427-Chevy Impala SS with factory 4-speed and a super built Truck 427 special ordered from the chevy plant call a Power Plant ( came mostly in large Chevy trucks). Later with some mods to he motor it was pushing an easy 575HP thus giving me the #"575" as I have used for DXing and all of the time on SSB. Later in life I owned a Country-Western bar and picked up the name Bartender no mater where I was in person at work or on the radio. I am also a Trans-America Club Member 5275 and a PROUD Member of CEF-309. A lot of calls to remember But the one you'll hear me use the Most Is "575" of Central OHIO. Been useing it for over 35yrs so if you hear me feel free to Holler at me....GOD Bless and I'l be listening...Walter "575" in Central Ohio |

I was given mine in the mid 80's by an older couple called Peaches and Nut buster I never knew how they got thiers so don't ask. any way Iwas about 14 and took my dads handle of silver streak. He had a silver 70 GTO and a lead foot! Ihad been talking for a couple of months when I decided I needed my own. The couple had no tv and I would always give them the weather reports from the local station and the scanner (NOAA) I asked them for help finding a handle and naturally since I was their weather reporter they called me the weatherman and it stuck! been him for 20 years now! But I guess the best one I heard was a friend of mine got his because of an accident! he was ran over by a 948 Bobcat (landscaping machine) He lived to tell about it because it buried him in the mud so we called him 948 or Bobcat! Heck of a way to get a handle ya think! |

Well lets see. I started on the CB my Dad had when I was eleven years old. The CB was an old hallicrafter crystal set that ya had to change the crystals in if ya wanted to go anywhere beyond seven channels. I used to talk to the local old foggies at night and had to use a kitchen stool to reach the radio which was perched on top of the refrigerator. I use to use my dads CB call sign, but the locals wanted to call me by a handle. "The Kid" stuck at first then one of them asked me what my last name was. Boston is my last name and wouldn't ya know there just happened to be a transplant from Boston on the local channel. "Beantown" has stuck ever since! See ya, CEF 260 |

I got my handle due to the fact that I used to run an old Collins KW-1 transmitter. It was built back when the hams still had 11 meters as one of their bands. So, I guess you could say it was already set up for CB. It was a big 600 pound thing, and would do a little over a kilowatt input on AM. Man, did it have a great sound to it! I traded the KW-1 off several years ago, but I still use the handle. Here's a link to a picture and info. about these big transmitters. http://www.wa3key.com/kw1.html |

WOW Kw thanks for posting that. Never knew such a thing existed. I'm a history buff and I love stuff like that. Education from others is how I know what I know today and I'm pretty knowledgable if I do say so myself. If I ever find one of those Collins I will be buying it working or not! For now I'm stuck with my connex 4800 dxl a fine radio I might add and BTW I believe you own one too. Great minds think alike? Oh yeah, What kind of antenna did you use with your Collins? Wonder if an Imax would work or would you need something similar to those days? Some kind of big heavy metal antenna. |

Hi Hotwire, If I'm lucky, I usually learn a couple of new things a day, too. Thanks for the compliment; I really like learning new things, too! I used a four-element Cubex cubical-quad beam fed with RG-213 coax. I had the beam mounted on a tower at about 50 feet, and used a HD 73 rotor to turn it. The old Collins would output about 500-600 watts carrier, and had high level plate modulation. So, it would really "do it's thing." An Imax 2000 would work fine, I'd imagine. You know, I've got to get one of those things as everybody really speaks highly of them. I also ran the Collins to a 160 meter "full-wave horizontal loop" at about 50 feet. I used a Johnson Kilowatt antenna tuner to allow me to operate all of the HF ham bands it. I wish I had a 4800 dxl, but unfortunately, I don't... My neighbor has one in his tow-truck, though. I really like messing aroud with his 4800. He's got an old Gray 300 hooked to it, and they made a great combination. Maybe I'll be able to trade him out of the radio one day :-)

Really cool kilowatt. Thanks for the comeback. Keep a lookout for a 4800. I use mine with an Imax about 39 feet up. Been making overseas contacts lately from here in Indiana. The 4800 sounds remarkable. The Imax has taken my DX hobby to the next level. Wish I would of bought one sooner. I seen one out there with your name on it! Oh yeah I have a cobra xl 350 hooked to my 4800. Run it on low at all times unless the noise gets too high. Man does it make the radio loud. Only let the radio swing about 40 watts so sideband sounds great. AM now and then when I feel like a ratchet jaw. But I gotta give all the credit to my antenna. Be reading the mail for ya man! 73 |

Good Deal - My neighbor has been eyeing an old Ft-101ZD that I have. I may see if we can work out a deal towards his 4800! He's working on his general class license, so he could probably use an HF radio in the near future. Is your Cobra XL350 the one with 2SC2879s? 73 |

My wife gave me the handle "Big macho bunny killer" 'caus the kids let her show rabbits free after she said we were going to eat them. They were big and made a mess out of the yard and started to dig under the foundation of my 35'x70' 1950's dary barn. I was trying to kill them with little sucsess. Then one day I got one and was so proud that I showed her, that was when it got up and ran away. She started to call me Big macho bunny killer [mostly in public] so now I am "bunny killer" I tryed to give myself the handle "bones" IE DR macoy from star treck but everyone just called me "boney" 'caus I was so thin. That is what you get for makeing your own handle. |

got my 1st radio from my uncle, a truck driver. he just called me 'pat'. as cb craze took off in 73-74, more 'adults', you know over 20 years old, got cb's. i was still the 'kid', & somebody down the street said 'oh yeah, your parents have the MATADOR in the driveway, right?' a '72 AMC rebel matador(unfortunately not a rebel machine, but hey, i was only 12, so it didn't matter!). so he started calling me 'matador', of which i still have some of my original DX qsl cards. anyway, on ch 6 during infamous blackout of 1977 & talking on my ft101e & maco amp, somebody went mobile when their power went out. they were trying to get info & asked my 2-0. when i told 'em where i was , he asked how much power i was running. he thought i said 8 watts & said NO WAY. i said-NO NO NO 8 HUNDRED-8-ZERO-ZERO! zero-zero stuck as quickly as matador did, because my locals would tease me for the next few days about my tone/anger at having to repeat ZERO-ZERO. running 1 of the bigger bases of the time obviously lead to a BIG mobile. when talking dx from my mobile in 79-early 80's, there were a few regulars who always said -can't be a mobile, gotta be a base! 'no way, just double zero in my baby pickup truck'. still have 3 or 4 people that ONLY call me matador, otherwise it's 'double-zero-baby-pickup-truck on my island in new york'. |

I normally think of handles that fit my interests, or something about me. I was "Cabbie", when I was a cab driver. I think my very first handle was "Robin Hood" cause I was learning about archery. I have big feet as well, so I'm often Bigfoot, or Sasquatch, (being part Cherokee Indian). Now I go by "Leadfoot" where I live, cause of my heavy foot when driving, lol. |

"One Eyed Jack" My name is John and I have one eye. But my wife called me her little "CrackerJack" when I joined the Navy so many years ago. Remember the little sailor in his dress blues -on the CrackerJack box? My friends are a little uncomfortable about my eye, so Vicky wins out. |

I remember walking into the managers office one day with another co-worker. I could hear him on the phone talking about us and we could hear him say, "I have nothing but SLUGS and LAMERS working for me". I figured since I was not an injured employee and the other guy I was with was, that the manager meant the Slug part for me. Hence, I became Slugo! The 4449 was my actual employee number. Thank God I am retired now! All you young folks please keep working hard so I can continue to collect my Social Security! |

About 22 years ago... I had this totally rusted out 73 Chevy Blazer 4X4. On or in or driving around the dunes at the beach in Port Aransas, Texas, some people i had met earlier that day were trying to get ahold of me on the CB for some forgotten reason now.. (stuck in the sand?) I heard in my recieve> "Hey, How bout that guy in that RUSTBUCKET" I laughed and answerd to it.. It kinda stuck with me and I still go by it..

I wanted something no one would likely have; so, I took my handle from a Beatle's song on their Abbey Road album called SunKing. I have gone by SunKing since 1976. mikefrommms |

Originally I was Wildman. Most everyone I know calls me this, even my boss at work. Few people would ride in a rear wheel drive with me, always a little (ok alot) sideways. HA HA. But another local was using it so my wife said since I'm up all night and sleep all morning I was a Night Owl. |

When I was a little shy kid going to school, the bullies used to kick my butt everyday and take my lunch money. This lasted for a couple of semesters. My parents wondered why was I losing so much weight, when they gave me money everyday. One day my uncle suspected something, and snuck up to my elementary school and witnessed a tall kid beating the tar out of me. My uncle broke up the fight, got my lunch money back, and days later enrolled me into some after school boxing and wrestling classes. A year and a half later, I had gained 25 lbs of muscle, my confidence in my new skills was at an all time high, and I made it my personal mission to beat the crap out of every bully who had ever terrorized me, as well as take their money. And because I made it a point to always fight the guys who was bigger, taller, or who I thought was badder than myself, my uncle nicknamed me the "Little Wolverine", because I would never, ever, give up. He told me the a real "Man" can only die once, but a coward dies a thousand deaths. My uncle changed my life, rest his soul. Wolverine. |

Member of the Montauk Surfcasters Association. My Plate # 905..hence "905". As for Vanilla Gorilla...thats a given name. Sounds a bit more friendly than my past given name "Rage"....'spose I had a short fuse at one time. Although I think my kids might agree to the later lately. Went by "poncho" early on when I first got my Drivers licence..had (still HAVE) a few GTO's. If fact just dropped an OLD 148 in my '72 "driver" this past week. Hank '905 |

When ever I am on AM I go by... Yup, you guessed it TomCat. By chance they are also my initials (TC). But my Dad actually called me that many years ago way before the Navy even dreamed about the F14 Bird, I guess because I was always out "Cat'n" around. So that has always stuck with me. The insignia is just fitting for me I guess... TomCat in VA. CEF217 |

I signed up here as Sinker because that is what I go by on Sportfishing Sites - why? I sink better than I swim but take my boat out through some crazy stuff anyway so thats what they started calling me. Was talking with my Dad the other night, mentioned I really didn't like Sinker so much especially for the radio. He suggested HAMMERHEAD for a number of reasons: 1) I love to catch them. 2) It was my goal to put a picture of me with a HammerHead Shark next to the picture of my Dad with his HammerHead Shark for about two years before I finally caught my first one. 3) He is a retired Marine with over 260 combat missions during Vietnam and his call sign was HammerHead and he thought it would be neat if I carried the name even if I did my time in the Army - He still gives me hard time about that. I might just go ahead and go with HammerHead_634. I know I don't want to give myself a handle as that just seems weird, plus I am not very clever. Tim CEF-634

Mine was in high school, all my friends told me I was a "rebel" due to the fact my mom would tell me to be home at midnight, and I was, but not on friday night, usually around sunday night, never getting into trouble but just would not listen, as most teenage boys would, well it's now 12 years later and people there still dont know my real name. |
