I noted a post below in reference to the purchase of a used radio... May I offer one and all a few tips comming from someone who except for one 2 meter radio all my purchases were used radios. Tip 1: If at all possible try to know your seller. Know how he or she cared for their radios. Tip 2: If you buy from someone whome you do not know on a personal level at least buy with some kind of safety net--like pay pal--just in case the radio was misrepresented and you want to return it. Tip3: Always use the radio, take a test drive before you buy. Check ALL the buttons and functions to be sure they are all working properly--bring your own SWR/watt meter if necessary. Tip 4: Try to get the manual that came with the radio. The original packaging may be optional but if at all possible try to at least get the instruction book that came with the radio. Tip 5: Remember that every purchase of a radio, used, is a gamble/particularly with the older radios. Just be cautious and careful when making your purchase and more often than not the rig you buy will be satisfactory and give you many hours of entertainment.

All good suggestions. Not something you can do if your buying on a auction site. But the PayPal thing is something you really have to do. Otherwise you could be one sad CBer or ham operator! |

Also, try to get the original mic, if that particular radio has up/down channel functions not getting the mic substantially decreases the value of the radio, even though most of us dont keep the original mic on them. |

That ELCO Guy, Those are 5 VERY HELPFUL TIP's for anyone looking to buy any Used Radio Equipment be it Radios or Amps or other radio equipment. The only thing I would add is that any piece of used radio equipment is only worth what YOU are willing to pay for it. So check it over very carefully so that you know exactly what you are getting before handing your money over. Just my nickels worth, Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9OSN |
