How easy is it to mod ( frequency ) these 2 rigs, what are the PRO s & CON s of these 2 rigs , and which is the better of the two ? |

They are not hard to mod at all if you have the knowledge. Never used the 2600 but have used many HR2510's and own the new Lincoln and LOVE them.

My #1 Choice would be the CHIPSWITCH modification.

The HR2600 can't be modified for frequencies without replacing the microprocessor. Well, actually it can, but the display won't track with the frequency in use. If you have an HR2600 already and want to add 12 meter coverage I HIGHLY recommend the Chipswitch. It's the best $50 I've ever spent on a radio and really the only way to do this fine radio justice. It keeps all of the functions of the HR2600 while adding even more of it's own.
Replacing the microprocessor with the modifiable one from the Lincoln will cause you to lose the repeater functionality that is built into the HR2600 and that would be a shame. If you want to do that I would suggest you sell the HR2600 and buy a Lincoln. I've never had a Lincoln but I understand that they are very similar to the HR2510 in operation although they have some different features.
In general this family of radios is excellent. Uniden makes great stuff. The only modifications I'd suggest would be the addition of a Channel Guard and the Chipswitch. There is a 2SC2999 receiver upgrade modification that I've heard good things about, but I haven't gotten around to doing it yet so I can't tell you how good it is. The are literally hundreds of other mods for this family of radios and really aren't worth it.
The HR2510 and HR2600 are no longer supported by Uniden while the Lincoln is. Factory repair for the Lincoln is a $59 flat fee. Also, recent Lincolns have an MRF455 as a final transistor while the HR2510 and HR2600 use an MRF477 that is no longer made. I believe the MRF497 is being made again and it's an easy replacement and even an upgrade for the MRF477. |

if the lincoln is using a mrf455, a 60 watt transistor, what can be done to up the rated output of 21 watts? or is the radio's power VR just turned down? or is the 21 watts just underrated ?
using a 2510 the other day has made me think about a lincoln... |

I have owned a few 2510's and one 2600, but not the Lincoln. The 2510's were good radios, and well worth the money. But I had a 2600 that I so wish I had kept.....it was one of the top 5 radios I have owned. Just my two cents........wait, I have a dime, can you make change?! *G* |

My Lincoln has the 455 and it will do about 20 watts on AM and 40 on SSB. I get nothing but compliments with it. I did a couple of Rogerbirds recieve mods, added a chipswitch and a channelguard and its by far the best radio I have ever owned. Id highly recommend it to anyone. |

Found out about a half hour ago it is a LINCOLN..but thanks for the info anyway on the 2600 ( maybe some one reading that info can use it , or for a future owner / user ). It IS Appreciated how much you folks CAN / DO help in a very, very short amount of time...less than 3 hours !!
