A lot of operators might have had this one before. Not much a problem I have just wonder if anyone can help me understand.
I just bought a connex 4800 and installed it myself (mobile). Also installed a 225 Galaxy kicker. Radio is 1.5 watts dead key 35 swing. Astatic mic. RG 8 , hole mount, 8ft Francis Swr 1.1-1.5 amp on.
Alright this setup was working great on my way to work today. I even made a DX contact to Cali. Nice nice radio.
When I finally was done at work Around 11:30 pm I turn my radio back on plus amp. Now I get terrible feedback in the talkback. I must turn it off. But the radio works great!!??It even appears to be driving the amp even harder than before. Swr is fine! What the heck? Why all the terrible feed back now? If I turn the amp off the feedback goes away. Is this normal with a connex or this amp?
I can say the only difference is it is now night time. Also a very nice sheet of dew on the car as well. Anyone else had things like this happen? B.T.W Its nice to be here.

MY radio will squell and feedback threw the talk back also, it cannot handle the power mike on talk back, so I keep it off unless I use a stock mike

Yeah I'm new to talk back and find it to be annoying sometimes. It makes me not talk natural in the mic. Well that just about answers my question. Talkback will feedback when you have strong modulation. Thank You Karatebutcher

Talkback.....something my kids do LOL..Personally I think you're better off without it from kids and in radios. Good luck.

Like Karatebutcher said, talkback and power mics are notorious for squeals. Depending on the radio, turning down the mic gain on the radio quite a bit can eliminate this.

Many run a power mic, mic gain cranked all the way open and a kicker and squeals occur. Not saying that is what you are doing, but you can experiment between the mic gain on the radio and the setting on your Astatic as see if you can find a happy medium when using talkback.

Worst case is like KB has done, turn the talkback off.

Hey its me again. I enjoy collecting vintage radios, the older the better. I really love base radios with tubes because.....well just because. I find the advanced technology over the years to be just amazing. A radio weighing 20 lbs from 1968 can weigh only a couple lbs today. Anyway I was wondering. Is there anyone here at Copper or any members, techs, somebody who knows these radios and can repair them? Replace tubes? ect Anyone in the business? For example I have a Cobra Cam 88 base. Really clean in and out for its age. I think a switch is bad that makes the recieve go out. This radio will transmit but sounds very terrible. Please help somebody!

don't understand the talkback thing-you do not sound on the talkback as you do over the air-overmodulated, muffled or just plain poor quality. you may hear tone differences from different mics & settings, but...

Talkback is just one TOY I have never understood or seen any reason for it on any radio.

It does not tell you what you sound like on the other end.

It does not tell you if you are over modulating or splattering every channel for 5 above or below.

It does not tell you if your Modulation is too high or too low or set properly.

For some reason I just do not need to, or want to hear myself talking every time I key up.

Heck if I want to talk to myself I can go to the Copper Chat Room and do like AJ does for hours on end and NEVER have to hear my self talking.

Talkback is like sticking your head in a Big Metal bucket and hollering HEYYYYYYYY CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW?

Just my nickels worth.

LOL Thats hilarious 808! So REALLY? I thought that the only purpose for backtalk was to know what you sound like. That and to adjust echo. This is the first time I ever had echo on a radio. Think its silly. As for talkback I agree, just a toy....one more thing for me to have a fit over and pull out some hair. Hey thanks sir! As for my feedback problem..........it seems to have disappeared. Must be operator error ya think? lol
