Hello friends,I was wondering if I can get some feedback on my low pass filter. It is an old Nye Viking made in Bellevue, Washington. Is this a good filter for 11 meters?I never had a concern until my new neighbor lady ( nosey old hen) knocks on my door accusing me of knocking out her tv and telephone!
I am a big time collector of old radio stuff and realize the old stuff that says USA works forever.
Anyway......Is Nye Viking a good name? I have an swr meter made by them too. |

IF IF IF the interference is due to front end overload--your antenna/signal strength relative to proxmmity to her TV set that it causes the TV to become extremely desensitized to TV Frequencies--then a low pass filter will NOT help you. What she needs is a High Pass Filter--a filtr that passes only the higher frequences while it cancels out the lower frequencies. AND sometimes even then if the front end overload is sufficiently large enough even that will not stop the bad TV picture.
Best solution, tell her to get cable TV. Tell her to have the CABLE TV people run all the wires and for her NOT TO do any wiring herself. That way the cable has to make sure that YOUR signal stays outside of THEIR cable system. Remember the cable people have to run all the cable, even inside the house/appartment.

Your protections from interference under the FCC regs end for the most part when your station does not comply to said FCC rules and regs.
You did not say if said alleged interference was due to your operations as a ham operator (we do have quite few of them here). If you are running power in excess of legal limits then dont. If you are running a preamp mike, back it down to max percent of mod at the HIGHEST voice PEAKS to no higher than 90%. Use the BIG STUFF when the Old Bitter Hen is asleep or not home and she will never know the difference.
However IF you are running strictly legit and your equipment is in proper running order, let the FCC come and inspect all they want, then go to the FCC web site and download and copy Part 15, I think its part 15, which covers devices such as TVs Sterios, and such. Basicly what part 15 says is that if you as a whatever operator is running a legal station then these devices has to take the interference AND they cannot interferwith you. The key part is that you must be completely legal. AND it helps if you have an FCC issued license--such as a ham radio op license.
NOTE OF IMPORTANCE...
DO NOT install the filter yourself, DO NOT install the filter yourself. One more time, do not install the filter yourself. Let her do that. Because IF anyting happens to the TV after YOU install the filter then she will suspect that your install caused the following problems. Let her install the filter then she can blame only herself. |

That (Unregistered Guest) is correct. And I aggree DO NOT INSTALL THE FILTER!
1) If you are LEAGAL then she is not going to get anywhere complaining to the FCC. If they contact you have your defence ready
1) ALL your radios are FCC approved.
2) You have filtered your radio with a external filter with no results.
3) Her " RECEIVERS " are part 15 devices.
The FCC wants to see a efford on YOUR part to fix the problem. If she is the ONLY person the FCC will also look at that.

This device complies with part 15 of the FCC Rules. Operation is subject to the following two conditions:
(1) This device may not cause harmful interference, and
(2) this device must accept any interference
received, including interference that may cause undesired operation.
THIS IS THE LAW !
