Has anyone installed a gdp/kit on an Imax and had the swr change values over the frequencies? Mine appears to have done so. It's not bad, but not as good. The gdp/kit doesn go up as close to the antenna as possible doesn't it? Or does it go in the bottom set of nuts under the IMax? mikefromms |

I guess my post didn't make good sense. My gdp/kit seems to be off center. Is this normal? Also, should I have the gdp/kit as close to the antenna as possible or use the bottom u-bolts to support the kit? Just wondering... I know I will love my setup once it is in the tree. mikefromms |

Mike, The GPK bracket should be mounted to the bottom set of holes in the Imax mounting bracket. The ground planes point down. It may help to bend the ground planes up a little bit. I think mine matched properly with the ground planes at about 30 degrees from horizontal. |

Tech833, thank you for taking the time to explain this and not just "assuming" everyone know this already. My kit didn't come with any instructions. You solved my problem. I didn't know the elements could be moved or repositioned. I'll try to bend them out a little more but I know they are designed to hang down like the Starduster. Thanks for giving me a straight answer. I'm sure everyone who wants to learn something on this site appreciates this approach. mikefromms

Then I figure that doing as 833 suggest will place the GP radials closer to the feed point right. There is another thread above this one that discusses placing this antenna near a horizontal beam and wondering if the beam had the affect of a ground plane kit on this vertical. I had a SD'r 10' to the hub above my 4 element horizontal and it did not seem to bother either antenna. I do recall making some comment at that time about the receive qualities on the SD'r being better than another vertical I had up at the time, but just not sure about the details. For some reason I had to take the SD'r down and it just never went back up. With that thing on a 10' mast above my beam you can imagine how close the down radials were to the beam. IMO, unless the GP is pretty close to the maximum radiating area of the antenna (maybe the feed point,) then it doesn't really have much of an affect. Based on much that we hear about stuff close to our antennas, that just doesn't make much sense however. |

Stuff close to antenna is sometimes bad, unless it is below the antenna. Mike, the GPK mounting bracket is flexible enough to bend. Mount the ground planes to it then bend them to whatever angle you want! |

As long as it does what it is supposed to do I don't care if they hang straight down. Saturday is getting closer. Can't wait to get that antenna up over 70ft! mikefromms |
