Harverster, Yes it could but with a THIN roof as you mention the Wilson Roof Mount antenna's will give you FAR LESS wind load than the 1700 or any other tall antenna with a spring added and thus give you far less chance for any damage. And unless it is a Junker or a car you plan on keeping forever, you will get a lot more from trade in or when selling it without having a hole in the roof that someone will have to fix. Ever think of a Wilson Mag Mount? It would solve all your problem's. Just my nickels worth, Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9OSN |

re H guy and 808 Thin roof ey! Hmmm, hey 8 what do you think about this. If he has a thin roof why not make it thicker at the point where the antenna is located so the antenna does not rip out of the mounting hole. How about a piece of aluminum sheeting (1 or 2 pieces) the kind they sell in home improvement stores and hardware stores cutting it to say about 8 to 12 inches round or square shaped with the antenna hole in the middle of the aluminum. Just mount the antenna thru the roof and both sheets of aluminum and fasten it down on the underside of the last sheet of aliminum. Hmmm it might be a good thing IF he put the first sheet against the roof the larger sheet followed by the slightly smaller sheet--to build up thickness. What do ya think?

that's how we put those big open air coil skipshootin' antennas on chevy suburbans, elco. ripping out the headliner isn't always fun, but a good 1/4" piece of steel & some dielectric compound gets the job done. the keydown guys don't usually drive with the GIGANTIC antennas on , but use more normal size predator 10k types. they also use 2 or more set up as a beam, and front & rear hitch mounts w/ extensions for 20-40 foot booms... |

thanks elco guy i still have the headliner in . i have 1.5" washers on there now and a fake 3foot fire stick. that dosent flex too much . i think i would need more aluminum than 12" though . it is a caravan i am working on no mag.mount allowed .$60 +shipping time for thief to yank and cut coax 3 seconds
