How much increase in receive and getting out ability should I expect from my Imax 2000 when I go from 10 feet at the base to around 70+ at the base of the antenna? Give me your experiences and estimates. Coax will not factor in negatively because it will be LMR-400. mikefromms |

It depends entirely on your local terrain so other's experiences won't be applicable as your location is unique. I've got to guess that at 10' you've got lots of local obstructions around the antenna and you'll see a large gain in performance and reduction in noise too. |

Terrian is good but the house is blocking my testing site. I'll add the gdp/kit before it goes in the tree. Let's keep it going. mikefromms |

By raising the antenna to 70 feet AGL, you will lower the takeoff angle dramatically. Your local coverage will increase by about 4X and your DX performance will increase noticeably. |

Rough rule of antenna hight gain distance to horizon = (1.4 * (sqroot) hight )) so a 25 foot high antenna would have 7 miles to horizon a 100 foot high one would have about 14 miles |

Can I give a question kinda like the one original question? My MaCo V is at 7ft to feed point, if I put it up tp 36ft or higher to feed point will there be a big change? will I still be able to talk 35-40 miles to people I talk to now? will they hear me better or will it hurt the talking distance I talk now but help DXing or both? airplane |

Bruce - Did you forget to double the height in that formula? |

Airplane1, Read Tech833's post just 3 above your post for your answer. The HIGHER the BETTER with any antenna no matter what kind it is. Hope this helps, Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9OSN |

If this Imax improves with height as my old super big stick did in the 80's then I'm in for some serious distance talking. mikefromms |
