like 1861 says, It you bought something that last forever in America, then America can't make their money... Heres one for ya... I'm not really sure the date they started inporting VW Bugs but after a few years America found out the car last forever and stop letting them be imported... well now there is a new VW Bug thats out now and America knows that this car won't last but as long as ever other car in America... Same thing with Radio's and everything else made or imported hope you understand now. 73 CEF #476 Starface |

Wrk3 & Others, I think what Jimmy396 may have been refering to the Texas Ranger 696F SSB MOBILE not the Texas Ranger 696F SSB BASE Radio. The Texas Ranger TR696F SSB Mobile has been REPLACED by the Texas Ranger TR-696FD1 SSB Mobile Radio. http://www.rangerusa.com/tr-696fd1.html The Texas Ranger 696F SSB Base Radio is still in production. Surely I am not the only one who knew this? Hope this helps to clear some things up. Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9OSN |

Jimmy396, If there is enough of a demand for any product from the Copper Forum Members, you can be assured that Copper will try and carry that product for the people. Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9OSN |

Hey Lon. how does this radio compare to my Uniden Grant "XL" and my Cobra 148F GTL, both of these being the older radios from Cobra and Uniden, made in Phillipines. Other than Uniden not having Frequency counter, what else is different? And which of these in your professional opinion is better? Anyone else that can answer this, please do so also. Many Thanks!! If I can add my 2 cents in this post since you asked for others opinion as well. I haven't been happy thus far with my 696F-SSB Base Station. However, this may be an isolated incident. So, I will not bash the entire line due to my one bad experience. The 696F mobile may very well be one of the finest radios ever produced. However, in my opinion, I've always loved the older Cobra radios like the 148GTL And the Grant. Uniden has (in my opinion) produced some of the finest and most rugged radios that I've ever had the pleasure of owning. Unfortunetly, the newer ones aren't worth a hoot in my opinion. I have heard good and bad on the 696F mobile. But again, it is like everything else, you can get a bad one right out of the box. Looking at the chassis of the 696F Base. And seeing how it is constructed, I see it being well made as far as durability. This radio should take a beating in a truck or car, and still come up asking for more. It is built very solid. I still have my 148GTL, I think the modulation is more powerful in mine. But that could be just me. I don't know if this post helped any, but just thought I would throw my 2 pennies into the ring. Have a great day. |

Keith, Sorry can't help you with the TR-696F SSB Mobile as I have never used one as yet. As for the TR-696F SSB Base Radio we LOVE IT. I did everything my self on it and it has always been operating at 100% with NO Problems in going on 3 years now. Always 100% Dead on Frequency and with the Silver Salute and DM-452 mics it has always received GREAT Reports. I set Homeboys up also just like mine adn he also LOVES his. Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9OSN |
