Paper765, I'm assuming you want it for 11 meter. I guess I would have to suggest the RCI 696f SSB Base. I dont have one but some of the other people on here do and have been giving it good report's. I DO hope to own one myself real soon.

Paper765 - There isn't a better radio made today than the Cobra 2000. The same basic design is still in production as the Cobra 148 although it's construction just isn't as good. It's an easy radio to work on and fix (with the exception of the frequency counter), and as long as the board itself isn't damaged you should be able to fix it or get it fixed for a long, long time.

I wish I could find a NIB Cobra 2000 or at least a very good unit that is unmodified with the frequency counter working.

A Cobra 2k in the box unmodified, now there's a fantasy come true...I'll take one too.

Cobra 2000GTL new in the box is still possible, every now and then you'll hear about one but the price is scary. The last one I saw about a year ago still in the unopened box was $600.00 and it also had a still in the box extra speaker for another $100.00 on a buy it now auction. Now that is $700.00 plus shipping from Denver and that $700.00 will buy a lot of amateur radio transceiver.

I agree Yankee - that's why I haven't bought one myself. I'm using Uniden Grants for base and mobile right now, although I have a few choices on the shelf.

Occasionally I haul out my minty Courier Centurion 40D. It's got a deluxe dual conversion Uniden 858 SSB board that's a bear to align, but it's a keeper.

One of these days I'll have the time and space to haul out the junker Cobra 2000 I bought with a box lot of stuff from a guy going out of the radio business. It needs a fair amount of TLC to get it back to stock and working order.
