Hey Lon,
I was looking at the picture posts and just noticed that on your tower is an antenna mounted on the side of your tower. Is it a Imax? and if it is/ being on the side of the tower does it work properly?
Would my Maco work at that position too?

Airplane1,

The antenna mounted on the standoff on the tower is an ANTTRON 2/6 Meter Ham Antenna.

5/8 wave on 2 Meter and 1/4 wave on 6 Meter and works great.

Airplane1 plans on putting up a PDL-2 in the spring./ I think he wants to know if he can
side-mount his Maco 5/8 wave to the tower also.
Just like Lon has his ham antenna mounted...

Can I mount the maco V above the PDL-2 with no ill effects?

Any piece of metal in the same plane and nearby an antenna will interact with the antenna and change the pattern. That is especially true of a resonant piece of metal like the horizontal radials of the V-5/8. If you could get the radials several feet above the PDL-2 and keep them at a 45 degree angle to the vertical plane of the loop wires it would probably work okay.

Personally, I wouldn't mount it above the PDL-2. Instead I'd mount it on it's own tower or pole.

I really dont have a place to mount the maco v anywhere else but om same tower, I hate to pack it away and just use the pdl-2 cause I will loose the omni direction. but I guess if I want a beam I have to sacrafice something.
Thanks for all the help though.

You can side mount the V-5/8. The omni pattern will be affected slightly, but not too noticeable. Therefore, mount it on the side of the tower you need the most signal. Tuning may be very slightly affected also. No big deal, don't panic.

Thanks for the info, that is great now I can keep the omni for listening and then get on beam when I get location of other operater and zero in on them.
