Question:
Why is the Ranger 69xx series of 10 meter radios so much more expensive than the 29xx series?
Are they worth the difference for what you get?
rgds,
Dave

the 6900 series is better built an they put out more wattage... i think they are worth it.. but thats just me... i'd rather have a ranger 6900FHP than the 2950dx...or the 2970 dx.. even tho the 2970dx does around 100 watts.. you can actually leave the 6900 series radios in the cold, don't have to worrie about them have front end over load, the disapate the heat alot better, you have an actual freq counter.. but this is just me... i hada 2950dx an i loved it.. but i sold it cause they were not as good for me living in the cold weather... hope this answers your question.

Dave if your not a HAM the 2950dx is very good for the " freeband " user. Save your money because if the 6900 was THAT good i would be running one on 10 meters........ Just my opinion.

For $540 you can buy a ft-840 or a IC-718 why bother with a export radio?
My 2950DX just was not good enough on FM other wise its a good radio. I doubt that a 6900 receiver is much better and amps are cheep.

Thanks for the comments guys but nothing so far on quality of the radios, boards, parts etc etc.
I would hope there is a good reason why they are priced up there other than to satisfy the "more money than you" market. If they had better boards, filters, cooling, audio, rubber seals on chasis or something one could understand. I don't see anything in the advertising blurb...

I am just curious as to why the 69xx series which is basically a CB set plus plus, cost so much more than the 29xx series with microprocessor control, memories etc. It doesn't add up, but then I have just come back to buying a CB radio after 20 years of using kenwoods.
Why? Because I want a little cheaper radio that I don't have to worry too much about.
In some places out here in Asia being caught with a ham radio can get you shot or at least locked up.
By the time you add $200 worth of filters and DSP to a ham radio..It is getting right on up there. Also Ham radios are difficult to fix in remote places.
BTW look what Yaesu can put into the 857. So much in a box that small.
To be honest with you there is nothing on 11m my TS-570 hears that the magnum 257 doesn't. In fact with some alignment the 257 could be made more sensitive as it is basically a single band device.
Thought about the 100w radios but as you said I figure I might as well buy an amp which will keep the radio cooler and give more power to boot.
I only work SSB on 11m. and sometimes FM on 10 just to marvel at the signals it gives.
