Palomar amps are okay for the money, not the best compared to other "Competition" amps, but they are okay. You're better off getting a bigger 2 pill or 4 pill modulator with the SD1446 pills in it. Hopefully, your radio's output wattage has been reduced to 2 watts, so as not to overdrive, and overheat your 1 pill amp/modulator. There are much better amps out there on the market with a "Fan", that is, if you like to stay on the key a lot. Any modulator with improve your signal/modulation to some degree, as long as the amp is not overdriven, and your antenna is matched to your radio. Your antenna is 75% of the overall performance of your station. Hope this helps. Wolverine. |

Modulators, whether they use 1 or 2 pills, are called that because they key low (Low dead key) and swing high (Peak wattage). Typical linears or amps can be made to do the same thing, by just lowering the DK of the radio itself. This affords the amp the opportunity to swing high, while sounding louder with "Punch". Now, if your radio's dead key is set at 4 or 5 watts, most 2 pill amps ( with the exception of some competition amps) will be overdriven, and your modulation will be distorted, pinched, muffled etc. The amp that you plan to buy, depends on "What's in your wallet", and your intended application for power/wattage requirements. Hope this helps. Wolverine. |

DXUALL,Look at the Texas star dx667v it has a modulator built in and is a low drive amp and reasonable in price. When you start talking about competition amp's you are talking big buck's.If thats what you are after you have the cash then X-force,Magna force and Sky walker are a few names to get you started.Stepchild |

howzabout a texas star dx350, dxuall? should get you a good honest 250+ watts AM, a bit more SSb. could be had for under $200, or a dx400 for about $50 more, that'd getcha better than 300watts. depends on what kind of radio you have and how it's setup, texas star high drive versions of those amps are about $10-15 more. |
