Hi,I am new to the forum and would like some help setting up my base.I had a 2990 a few years back and really enjoyed it,things came up and I got out of cbing, sold the radio to a friend.I now would like to get back into it.I am looking at the 2995DX Base with a cooper tune up and possibly an amp.I am not stuck on having a 2995DX,just want a good solid setup.Could you give me some advise on a good solid package, going to run an I-MAX or a Maco antenna.Thanks-Harvey

I have a 2995dx and that fella rocks. It will do more then stated easy wattage wise, altho you should not run it that hard. Mine I have driven into a henry radio 3kw, heathkit sb220 and a heathkit sb200 all those setups work very well. But if you are going to do a package from our good folks here at Copper I would say the 2995dx and the KLV 1000<p> would do what you are looking for.

I have the RCI 2970DX with the Copper tune and convert and love it! It's basically the same radio as the 2995DX but in the mobile version. The draw back here is you would need to buy at least a 30-amp continuous power supply to run the 2970DX with, and it still isn't as nicely spread out as the 2995DX.

I can only believe the 2995DX would be a better package along with the I-Max 2000 since the I-Max will go anywhere the 2995DX will go without an antenna tuner.

If you are looking for an amp to go along with the 2995DX, I’ve read the KLV 1000 is a nice match for it, but I would have to let others speak to that.

Over all I really enjoy the 2970DX I-Max combo, and know the 2995DX I-Max combo would do a fine job for you too. And by the way I do not believe there is a better setup available. I don't know of any other rig that has the band width or out of the box power the 2995DX has. The only other option that would be close would be going the HF route, but that’s another ball game.

Just my opinion I couod be wrong :-)

Re 6pack....

An amp on an omni stick is not exactly efficient. You might consider beam antenna to get the biggest bang for the buck.
