Does anyone make a Homemade Alarm for their Mobile CB? Just thinking of different ways to protect my setup without having to remove the radio each night. Ive lost several antennas over the years and one radio but dont want to go thru that again. Any Ideas besides another alarm. Maybe something connected to the radio.

Possumz,

The easiest way I have found is to use a Quick Disconnect & Hump Mount:

http://www.copperelectronics.com/cgi-bin/checkitout/checkitout.cgi?catalogSTORE:CKIE:prodW90-30012+

And Use the Hump Mount w/Speaker:

http://www.copperelectronics.com/cgi-bin/checkitout/checkitout.cgi?catalogSTORE:CKIE:prodM60-07520+

This allows you to have your Radio/Ext Speaker and Amp all mounted to a Single Piece with a Single Power connector and just unhook the Quick Disconnect and Unscrew the Antenna and nothing for anyone to steal.

Also if you have several different vehicles (like we do) this also allows you to transfer everything very easy.

Hmmm. IF you want a basic homemade alarm....

Just design a noise type of alarm kind of like a horn or such powered by the auto battery. Put a switch in line with the positive side. The switch can be a homemade switch with two pieces of metal with a spring that pushes one against the other making contact at all times. NOW all you have to do is place piece of plastic inbetween the two contacts (this turns off the switch) and attach the plastic to the radio via a short run of wire, string whatever to a screw or something on the radio. WHEN THE THIEF yanks the radio he pulls out the plastic separating the two alarm contacts closing the switch and the alarm goes off.

Simple and Crude but functional.

you could always conect a wire to the radio to trip a relay to set the horn off !!!
or a fuse (like you would use for a radio )
and cut a small hole in the side so you can put a peice of plastic between the fuse and the sping so when they pull the radio out it will trip your horn !!!!

808's idea would work great !!!!
coax and one plug and its out !!!!

hope this helps !!!

You could rig an extra speaker-jack on the back of the radio and have a fake speaker cord plugged into it, connected to a cheap auto alarm. When the idiot unplugs the "speaker wire", off goes the alarm! I have done something simmilar using a transistor on the TX pin of the mic-socket. When the wire is unplugged, the radio will not key-up. A message inside the case tells the repair shop that the radio is stolen and I will give a reward for its return (to me, of course).

Hmmm...Here goes my anti-theft solution. rude/crude BUT HIGHLY EFECTIVE. After installing my radio I then take several thin safety razor blades and super glue them to the back of the set around the coax and power cord conections. **just remember there there for future reference**. A thief in his hurried actions just reachs down to remove the conector and OUCH...the rest is pretty much self explanitory, Plus leaves a good DNA trace for the police to use as evidence. Just a though for a very cheap way of stop a thief right now....Buy the way it works too..."OHIOBIKER" 575
