Waste of money. Better buy Behringer dsp1124p and MDX2600. Of course, if your trx is wide enough on transmit to enjoy broadcast audio.
I`m running now TS870s, Behringer B1, DSP1124P, MIC2200, MDX2600, sounding like BBC.

Yes I heard w2ihy box on the air, almost all of users sold it after some time, wanted more and bought Behringer equipment. W2IHY is nice piece of equipment, but not worth it`s price IMO. For some people it is too simple and not so flexible. Nice condenser mic is needed also. I`m using Behringer B1. Listen on 14.178 there is a home of hi-fhi ssbaudio guys. My radio is unmodified, I can go from 0 up to 4.2k TX bandwidth and 6k on RX on SSB just out from the box. I`m thinking to sell it and buy FT1000markV or MP with 6k Inrad filters to go up to 6k bandwidth on SSB. Of course there is a question is it worth? In my opinion it is fun, and I`m sure I would do that again. People are calling to complain audio, ask what I`m running, etc. Poland is not most wanted country on HF, but I got many calls and audio is the reason.
You can read more about it here: www.nu9n.com
Go to mp3 section and listen recordings of w3oz, w2onv, n2vu (his audio rocks!!), and tell me how do you like it.
Yes, I spent some money for all of my equipment, it was hard, beacuse in Poland we have diffrent salary/price ratio, than people in States. But after some years i did it.

If you got more questions, feel free to mail me or ask.
Mike

I know someone who has one. I would sort of agree with the above. It's a nice piece of gear, and for some users is fine, but the noise gate on this particular unit was touchy and as mentioned, most CBs won't be able to take advantage of the EQ functions to the fullest. Also, the unit seems to be prone to RFI when running moderate power levels-couple hundred watts. Though, it could be possible it was a flaw with the particular installation and not the device.

On the plus side, it did a nice job of handling various types of mics with it's compliment of ports and the hi/lo impedance settings. Audio quality without the noise gate on was good with no extra noise or hum detectable-low power levels.

It's a fun little device, but I'll bet that most of the forum members could rig up some garage sale stereo EQs to do the same job at a fraction of the cost.

It seems to me that using excessively wide SSB transmisions on a crowded band is irresponsible and selfish.

I`ll try to answer in one post.
(445): max is 3000, but after external soud processing output bandwidth is up to 4.2k. It was measured by a lot of people on spectraplus software and commercial receivers. To play with ssb audio I`m not using any soundprocessing in the radio. Rack is connected directly to balanced modulator to bypass all signal forming path inside.
(Hihglander) I agree with you 100% When I`m DXing I`m usind narrow setup. Better to break through the pile up. But for ragchew on empty band I`m opening my transmitter wide to have warm, nice audio.
I`m only one there in SP, so fun is great. No one from Poland sounds like me. That`s my sonic personality, recognizable 100%.

Ist all this overkill for just talking on the radio?
Why not just settle for a SP-1A and be done wit it??
Far cheaper and it does the job!

Hey Hollowpoint, I own one and love it! I use it with my Heil Goldline on my TS-940. To each his/her own and quite honestly...all of the above is subjective. What sounds good to one may not to another, so take my post in the same perspective. It does a nice job as far as I'm concerned...and btw, I do audio for a living in Broadcast TV. Not that that's better than anyone else, but I do know a little about audio and always learning. 73 and good luck in your decision.

I just bought it assembled. I have fumble fingers sometimes and it's just better off for me! Now again Hollowpoint, it's just an opinion from me. Skunk has some good ideas and the 870 is one of the best rigs I've ever owned for audio, but for me and my money, the W2IHY was a welcome enhancement. You can only go so far in bandwidth audio on CB and Ham, so in my opinion, I'd rather put a little money everywhere. Just fits my budget better.--73
