This is why I don't like 9913 solid conductor. I'm not sure if they've changed the dielectric or not, but this one is one of the 'air-core' style. Now granted I obviously did not seal this up well, but there is something to say about a dielectric that is not tight to the center core of the coax. Anyway, the story goes, I pulled this out of a pile I had in the garage, cut off the old end because I saw some corrosion on the shield and was surprised to see this corrosion about 3 inches back. So I ended up stripping about almost a foot and, by the pic, you can still see spots of corrosion on the center conductor at almost a foot inside where the old PL-259 used to be. Make darn sure ya seal your ends (from wx) up good fellas!! Just thought some of you might like to see this.---73 |

9913 air is supposed to have pressure in it, even when stored. Dry air would have kept moisture out. If you sprung a leak, you would notice it because your air pump would cycle.
I maintain more than a dozen sites with air coax of various sizes and have only had 1 or 2 problems. Once was a tower rigger that kicked the cable and damaged it. Another was lightning. |
